I have always had a passion for dance and performing. This year being part of freestyle society exceeded all of my expectations, it has been an amazing society to be a part of and I have seen how hard committee work to make sure everything runs smoothly, so I want to help give that same experience to other members of the society which will be so rewarding
I would like to be comp rep because I have fallen in love with the competing side of dance, I want to further this by being fully emerged into all the aspects that go into organizing competing. I like to be organized and involved in decision making. I enjoy organizing events from booking rooms to organizing contracts with choreographers. I know the role will allow me to develop not only my passion for dance but my leadership and team working skills.
I believe I am suited for this role as I am highly organized understanding how much of a commitment being part of committee is and knowing how to effectively divide my time so that I can fulfil my role to the best of my abilities balancing with being part of the society itself and with the demands of my degree. I can communicate and work with people of a range of ages and background through working at a explore learning tutoring where I liaised with parents, children and staff which is integral for this role. To communicate with other committee members, choreographers and other societies.
I have strengthened my leadership abilities through projects during my course.
I have been to many dance auditions in different institutions, so I have been able to see how the process works what to look for but also how to make the society an inclusive enjoyable experience for all.



Some new ideas I would be open to discussing with other committee members is perhaps doing some open classes in other styles of dance every now and then so more people can be introduced into the society and perhaps taking part in some of the showcases within the university.

Hi everyone! You may already know me as being one of your current Social Sec’s but if not, then my name is Zara and I would love to be your new Comp Rep for the upcoming year. Being a part of the Freestyle Committee this past year has been absolutely amazing; I have loved all the fun aspects of it but I also understand the immense level of work and commitment that is put in to successfully help run the society. Due to Covid, this year was my first year of competing with the society and it really made me fall in love with dancing all over again. I loved every aspect of it, (even the long and very stressful last-minute jazz rehearsals) and so, I would love the opportunity to become your new Comp Rep!!

Having considered our feedback from the competitions that we attended this year and seen the issues that we encountered throughout competition season, I have some ideas that I would love to bring to the table that could help to improve our competition teams and the process as a whole. Firstly, I think that it is essential that we have some technique classes at the beginning of the year prior to comp season, so that we can improve our basic technique since that was one of the areas that we lost marks on when looking at our score sheets. Additionally, I think that starting our comp rehearsals earlier on in the year would be beneficial to us all; not only would it mean less stress and pressure to learn the dances in a short amount of time, but this also means that we could potentially have shorter rehearsals which won’t leave us exhausted half-way through and allow us to focus for the entirety of the rehearsal!! Therefore, we would also have a longer period of time before our first comp of the year to clean and polish our routines, which is incredibly important! Lastly, I would love for us to be able to do an extra competition next year (or maybe even two depending on the budget), as this would enable us to ease into comp season by doing a slightly smaller, easier competition which will hopefully build our confidence as a society and help us to feel more prepped before we smash it at Loughborough!!

I really believe that I could be a successful Comp Rep for you all as I have great communication skills, which is an essential quality that is required when being a main point of contact for the choreographers! I would also ensure that the choreographers that we choose are organised and propose great ideas that would help highlight our strengths as dancers. As I have been on the committee this year, working effectively with other committee members is something that I have already done, and I would love the opportunity to work closely with them again in order to complete choreographer contracts and budget for comps! Organising the competitions would be incredibly important to me as I want to make sure that everything runs smoothly so that we can all enjoy the comps with no issues, hence this is a job that I would take very seriously!! Most importantly, I would work my absolute arse off to make sure that all of you have the best comp season next year; I have seen first-hand how much work everyone puts into dancing, and it is the best feeling ever when we all come together as a society to support each other at competitions. I would absolutely love to be your new Comp Rep and make next competition season the best it can be, I have so much love for everyone in this society and I can’t wait to smash it with you all next year!!
