Hi everyone! I’m Immy, a fourth-year medical student currently intercalating in Neuroscience at King’s College London. Psychiatry has fascinated me since I was 17, and over time, my passion for destigmatising mental health has deepened through academic study, hands-on clinical placements, and extensive involvement in student-led psychiatry initiatives.

I’ve proudly been involved with Psyched for the last two years. As Sponsorship and Fundraising Representative, I launched events like the now-annual tote bag painting sessions and organised a mental-health-themed pub quiz raising money for Leeds Mind Charity. I also ran the Psyched social media accounts for National Student Psychiatry Conference—designing promotional materials such as the logo and conference brochure, managing social media outreach, and helping run the weekend in person after travelling up from London.

Studying at King’s has expanded my appreciation for student mental health, especially through events like keyring making and colouring sessions hosted by KCL’s Medics Do Mind Society. I'd love to bring these kinds of hands-on, wellbeing-focused activities to Leeds and help make mental health care more approachable, creative, and inclusive.

Studying Neuroscience has also helped me develop my interest in mental health through various psychiatry and psychology related modules, such as pharmacology of psychiatric disease, behavioural sciences and an interdisciplinary approach to sex, gender and sexuality. I am also especially passionate about neuropsychiatry - the intersection between the brain and the mind. This interest has led me to carry out a systematic review and meta-analysis as my dissertation, focusing on the role of the pineal gland in schizophrenia spectrum disorders, exploring how neuroanatomical structures may influence complex psychiatric conditions.

Lastly, I’m deeply committed to widening participation and representing under-represented areas within psychiatry and fostering a community of people passionate about good mental healthcare for all. Having served on other society committees including Access to Medicine and being heavily involved in LAMMPS since my first year of university, I my strengths include strong organisation, creativity, and teamwork. My goal as Vice President is to spark passion in students who may not have considered psychiatry before, while also ensuring diverse voices and experiences are at the centre of our events and advocacy.

Psychiatry is one of the most fascinating yet overlooked aspects of medicine. It influences how patients behave and how trauma presents later on in life. I'm particularly interested in this field as it reflects the more societal aspect of medicine, looking at how social factors can influence phenominons such as drug addiction and religious trauma. Having already worked with various psychiatrists and mental health practitioners, the role of Vice President will not be foreign to me. This coming year, I aim to bring more representation to the mental health struggles of LGBTQ+ individuals and look at controversies surrounding these. I am a driven and motivated individual who seeks to aid the Psyched committee by offering a sense of direction and encouragement.
