(Contents: why am I a good candidate & what I think welfare policy should be for 2025)

Why am I a good candidate:

- 4th Year so don't mind leaving a social if someone needs help getting home (ubering with cam to crispys because he got kicked out of mischief) or to watch out for someone who's throwing up and could probably use some water

- Currently employed as a bar manager which means I have taken legally required training in spotting spiking and it's symptoms, administering first aid and de-escalation of fights

- Experienced in booking and communicating with physios after needing to book in with physios for a year long stint in sixth form due to leg and knee surgery. Will be active in ensuring any players who need or want physio get it and have their needs met

- I'm a strong advocate for mens mental health and think it should be a bigger focus and priority for us to be aware about as a society. During uni stress is high and life can be unstable which is why it should be recognised with the right importance

- I'm generally very approachable, relaxed and love meeting new people. I look forward to making stronger connections within the team and to meeting the new members in the coming year

- Own a car so vote for me if you want free lifts to and from training (not a bribe)

What do I think should happen as welfare policy in 2025:

- Gym sessions with experienced members for those who have less experience in the gym. Stronger gryphons = a stronger season and the main thing that holds people back from going to the gym regularly is a lack of confidence

- Anonymous form that allows people to ask for guidance and get assistance from professionals if needed when having a hard time mentally. Outside of movember we should be doing more for mental health. Especially male depression which is an under-reported and overlooked issue that we can help improve

- Easier access to physio, all gryphons need to be aware of the professional help they can get through the university and access to it should be as easy as possible

I believe I am an excellent candidate for the role of Welfare Secretary due to my passion for mental health. As the only Gryphon studying Psychology, I have gained valuable insights into mental health, stress management, and emotional well-being, which I am eager to apply to the welfare of the team. My academic knowledge allows me to better understand the challenges players may face, both mentally and physically, and I am committed to ensuring that everyone has access to the support they need.

In addition to my studies, my experience as a basketball referee has honed my communication and decision-making skills. Refereeing has taught me how to handle high-pressure situations, mediate conflicts, and remain calm and approachable—skills that are essential when supporting the well-being of our big team. My ability to build relationships with individuals from various backgrounds will help create an inclusive and welcoming environment for everyone on the team, from the President to Freshers.

Also, I have valuable connections in the field of sports psychology, which I plan to leverage to bring professional resources and advice to the team. I am passionate about integrating mental health awareness into the sporting environment, and I would love to organize workshops or talks on mental health, stress management, and resilience to help players both on and off the field.

As Welfare Secretary, I would prioritise being visible, approachable, and proactive in checking up on players, especially during challenging times. Whether supporting injured players, creating a space for open conversations, or ensuring the team has access to mental health resources, I am dedicated to fostering a supportive and well-rounded environment. I am excited to use my skills and passion to contribute positively to the team’s welfare and success, and I hope you vote for me as your next Welfare Sec!
