Hiya! I’m Rachel, a Second Year Law Student, and I'm excited to run for the position of Community Engagement Secretary. My goal is to enhance the fantastic initiatives already underway while injecting some fresh perspectives into the mix.

Community involvement has always been a cornerstone of my values, and I am dedicated to continuing this commitment through my involvement in LawSoc. Currently serving in two Sub-Committees, I am fully immersed in the activities and initiatives of our society, ready to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the table.

Drawing from diverse experiences, I have refined valuable skills that I am eager to apply in the role of Community Engagement Secretary. Accessibility and approachability are paramount to me. As a prospective candidate, I commit to being a reliable ally, ensuring that every member's voice is respected and valued. Whether you need guidance, have concerns to discuss, or simply want to connect, my door is always open.

Additionally, I am genuinely enthusiastic about organising events that not only foster community cohesion but also make a meaningful impact through charitable endeavours.

Hi everyone,
My name is Liv and I am hoping to be your next Community and engagement secretary!

Community is so important. My campaign is focused around expanding and engaging better with you LawSoc members. I am passionate about helping out in the community (whether this be at home or at University). Volunteering and helping out is something that brings me personal joy. I like to get stuck in and help as many people as possible.
I have extensive experience with volunteering and helping out communities so that they can thrive. I currently volunteer at Rainbows and Brownies in local area, weekly. I was a Girl guide for 7 years entailed raising money for charities through: bag packing at local supermarkets, colour runs, car washing and litter picking in the community. As head girl I planned numerous charity fundraisers, organised movie nights to sell tickets for charity, charity dress down days and cake sales. Which led to experience planning events and liaising with a wide variety of people. I am a First year Equality, Diversity and inclusion Ambassador for the School of Law. As a mixed race girl, I understand the requirements for diversity and have had experience listening to the voices of others. I am a Current Adventure Youth coach, helping coach children who struggle with low confidence/ esteem. I have experience in Tutoring, being a peer mentor (spent time one on one with students who struggled with literacy, helping them to read) and peer educator (delivered lesson plans to a class weekly, on mental health awareness).

With this such experience, I know I will be able to expand the ‘societies into schools scheme’ as well as outsourcing other opportunities for us to take part in. It is a priority of mine to create better links and connections with the wider Leeds community, ultimately resulting in better work experience and networking opportunities.

This is a position where I know I can excel. The community engagement position needs a person who is able to dedicate a lot of time, energy and passion. I will be that person. I strongly believe that the position of community engagement has a lot of potential to make real improvement for us LawSoc members.

Hi I’m Jodie and I would love to be your community engagement secretary for next year! As a woman of colour and a muslim, I have always been passionate about community building, engagement and recognition and I can provide a new perspective to the committee. I have a level of experience with this role as I am currently on the sub-committee, meaning I have had the opportunity to help plan the silent auction and the societies into schools initiative and I hope to develop and improve on these next year! I believe I would be a great addition to the Law Society committee! I am organised and can be a great leader and have a lot of experience with volunteering for charities in the past. I understand the intricacies of what this role entails and have new and innovative ideas of how to build on that!
What I would like to add/bring to the role if given the chance:
Plan am number of freshers events so that there are a choice of sober events
I'd like members to have more say in the charity they'd like to support as a law society through a questionnaire or a vote.
Collaborate with student-led charity societies like STAR or SolidariTee.
Host a charity cultural event - appreciating our school of law community whilst simultaneously engaging with the outer community.
Recognise events and holidays that are important to outer community members such as Diwali, Chinese New year and Eid.
Develop and expand our Pro-bono facebook page to other social media platforms to ensure that students are aware of opportunities available to them!.
Liaise with Marika (who is in charge with law related careers and work experience) regarding pro-bono opportunities.
Ensure a great level of pastoral care is available to students in the law school.
