Hey freestylers!! We’re Ellie and Connie, and we’re running to be your Social Secs next year. Joining Freestyle was genuinely the best decision we’ve made, not just because we love to dance but because of the friendships and memories it has given us. We honestly couldn’t imagine first year without it.

Freestyle is such a welcoming and fun society, and a huge part of that is Wednesday nights (the highlight of our week). We would LOVE to be given the opportunity to create that sense of community and fun for both new members and returners, so that everyone gets to experience Freestyle in the way we have!

We believe we would be great Social Secs for several reasons. First of all, we basically come as a package deal at this point, we’re always together and we trust each other completely and we know we can rely on each other to get things done. We’re also super organised (but not in a boring way, don’t worry). Our plan is to sort socials before each semester starts so there’s no last-minute chaos and everything runs smoothly. We also want to plan joint socials early, so we’re not stressed trying to organise everything mid-term. That being said, we’re 100% open to feedback as we want socials to be shaped by what you enjoy, not just what we think works. Finally, commitment is definitely not an issue. We are always at Wednesday socials and mischief (we have been called warehouse warriors), and even when we probably should have stayed home, we still showed up (Ellie has basically been on her deathbed semester 2 and has still come). That’s because socials are genuinely the best part of our week and we want to make them the best part of yours too.

Next year we’ve got the perfect place to host as Connie’s house has a basement that we’re planning to turn into a sick pres location. There will be a speaker (its big), LED lights, sofas, space for games and lots of people. It’ll be a great location for everyone to have fun, get to know each other and do lots of challenges of course.

We also have lots of new exciting ideas in mind for next year such as: Drinking Olympics, Judgement Day and Foxes and Hounds. And alongside that, loads of smaller games and challenges to keep things interactive such as: Guess the embarrassing story, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and obviously the classics (Beer Pong etc.) However, we also understand that socials aren’t about forcing games 24/7, we’re good at reading the room and bringing things in at the right time so it keeps the energy up without feeling forced.

Our favourite new idea is introducing a Top of the Pyramid (inspired by Dance Moms obviously). Each week, one person will be chosen by your new Abby Lees based on energy, dedication and participation. For at least the first semester, we would focus this on freshers as it is an easy way to get them involved and make them feel recognised early on. The winner, as having mogged everyone else gets the reward of getting out of a challenge the following week, which they will definitely want.

What we really want to do is to make sure socials keep everyone involved (especially freshers) and make sure each Wednesday feels different. We’ve had the best time at every single social (literally every single one) and we don’t want to change what makes Freestyle so special. We would be honoured to carry on that legacy and give everyone the same fun and memories we were so lucky to experience because no one does it like Freestyle !!

HEY GUYS…I’m Ruby and I’m running to be your social sec next year 💃 
For those of you who don’t know me (which I hope is none of you), i just wanted to introduce myself a bit… 

I’m from Liverpool, studying first year maths and competed with freestyle in hip hop this year, and before that danced for 13 years competitively!  I’m open to anyyyy dance styles and freestyle has helped me so much to explore that!

To tease some ideas I have for next year, I thought I’d share a few:  
* Anything but clothes (tops, jeans, dresses NOT allowed I require bin bags, boxes, shopping bags ONLY…get creative)🤪 
* PowerPoint Night (because nothing brings people together like exposing each other)😏 
* Sober socials…brunch dates, Pilates, wholesome vibes💕 
* Music video night…teams create a music video and we premier them at the end (Oscars energy, prizes aka shots included)🎞️ 
* Childhood icons📸 
* Pub crawls/scavenger hunts🧐 
* Joint socials with other societies 😎 
Plus I wanna introduce more drinking games and punishments 🫣 

Beyond the chaos, I genuinely love this society so much. Freestyle has given me my best friends, my favourite memories, and honestly the highlight of uni. First year would quite obviously not have been the same without it, and I want to make sure everyone—especially freshers—gets that same experience.  

My commitment to freestyle might be considered next level, I broke my collarbone and I still competed at all the comps AND went to every Wednesday social (that i wasn’t slinged up for). I do not mess around about a themed drinking night. 

And let’s not ignore a key asset…the house. My house is the PERFECT house for pres, with a back garden, a whole basement floor dedicated to social nights (think disco balls, fairy lights, big speakers), and most importantly to those of you who break the seal to early like I do…a basement toilet.  
But more than anything, I want to focus on making socials inclusive, varied, and the BEST part of everyone’s week. Whether you’re a big night out person or prefer something more chill, I’ve got you. 
Lyds and Beth did such an amazing job this year and I just want to do them proud while bringing my own energy to it.
