Hey freestyle!!!
Joining freestyle has been more fun than I could’ve ever expected! It has been my best decision since coming to uni and I’m so glad I joined the best dance society around. This is why I thought I’d go out for committee and get even more involved, and welfare seemed like the perfect role for me.

About me:
I’m Daisy Byrne 😛 a first year studying medicine who bloody loves to dance. I grew up taking many ISTD and RAD exams, and competing in both street and technical styles. I’ve performed in Vegas, danced at Move It, done many SOAR and UDO completions and come 3rd place in ultimate advanced with my team at UDO worlds. I’ve always loved dancing and competing, but I really struggle with the pressure that comes with it, which is why freestyle has been so incredible at competing insane routines whilst focusing on having fun and taking away the stress.

Why welfare:
- Freestyle society is the most incredible place to grow as a person, learn new skills and make new friends, but it only works if everyone feels comfortable and safe
- I know exactly what its like to be a nervous fresher terrified to audition or step foot In class and I’d love to help out and make it an easier transition into uni and freestyle life
- I work in a care home at home and genuinely value human connection and connecting with others to build friendships
- As part of my medical degree I spend an abundance of time on placement and in projects meeting many members of the public and learning how to properly communicate and create rapport
- Ella has been the most incredible welfare sec this year and helped me massively when I’ve been stressed and nervous – it has shown me how important this role is !

Ideas for next year:
Those first couple of team classes were very nerve racking icl (you’re all too cool and intimidating), I was unsure who was a fresher, who were in older years, peoples names etc etc. I would love to try and do a social for the comp teams (even just drinks at terrace) at the start of January, for the freshers to get to know everyone outside of the dance studio.

3STYLE 4 LIFE !!!!!

Hey freestylers!! I’m Taylor and I would love to be your welfare sec for next year. This year freestyle has made my first year of uni so much fun! Being able to continue dancing in Leeds whilst also making the best friends and making so many funny memories has been amazing. This society has always managed to make everyone feel so welcome and involved, and that is something I would like to be apart of and build on next year.
Dance has always been such a huge part of my life! Since the age of 4, I have taken classes in ballet and modern, later going on to take ISTD and RAD exams in ballet, tap, modern and contemporary all the way up to intermediate. I have also been apart of lots of shows and competed around the UK since the age of 10. Additionally, at my old dance school, I was lucky enough to be able to teach the younger classes, helping with their exam and show work. This meant I had to be very patient, caring and a good listener, which are all traits which would benefit me as welfare sec. One of my favorite things of being apart of dance has always been the community it creates around you-being alongside people who love to do the same thing as you and forming friendships for life. I felt the sense of community within freestyle during the first social I went to as a fresher and have continued to feel it throughout the year. I would love to be apart of maintaining and strengthening this environment, ensuring each new member feels included and excited for what freestyle has to bring.
Aside from my dance experience, I like to see myself as a friend that people are comfortable coming to for advice, support or simply just someone to talk to. I’ve been told that I am an approachable person that people can feel like they can open up to. During school, I spent time as a peer mentor, which helped me recognise when someone may need extra support and how to respond in a calm and understanding way. I would bring these qualities into the role as welfare sec, making every member feel supported throughout their whole time in freestyle.
If I am lucky enough to gain this position, I would communicate with the social secs to organise regular sober socials, giving the society a time to socialise outside of drinking (as much as we LOVE Wednesdays) and get to know each other on a better level. I would also love to introduce a set time each week where I would be in the union for anybody to speak to when they feel necessary. I feel this would make freestylers feel more comfortable opening up about any worries they are experiencing. As well as this, I would organise fundraiser events that everyone could get involved in. I have previously hosted many of these like when cutting my hair off for the princess trust charity. During this I learnt lots of fun and exciting ways of raising money and I would be able to bring this into the role as welfare sec.
Joining freestyle was the best decision I made when moving to Leeds and I am so grateful for the society making me feel at home, allowing me to continue dancing here. I can’t wait to see what another year as a freestyler has to bring and I’m so excited to have been given the opportunity to be a candidate as your welfare sec for next year!!!

Hi everyone!!! I’m Ruby and I’m running for your welfare secretary for 26/27! Ive been dancing for a loooong time and can say that my first year as a freestyler has been one of the greatest things to be a part of, and i’d love to have an opportunity to be part of the committee that runs this incredible society!

Of course dancing itself is important but community and friendships is arguably the most best thing about dance, the people i’ve met and bonds i’ve made through this society is amazing and something i’ll never EVER forget even years after leaving Leeds. Uni life can be intense, and while dance is an amazing outlet, it’s important that our society actively looks after the wellbeing of all its members, dance at university should be fun, and it’s SO important to make sure everyone feels included and valued. We can’t keep dancing if we aren’t all happy and healthy!!!!

As welfare sec, i’d love to organise some fundraising events for charity, raising money for causes that are important to both me and our lovely freestyle members! I’d also love to introduce more sober socials, such a good way to spend more time with other freestylers and make friends!!!

This society has already given me so much, and I’d love the chance to give something back by supporting the wellbeing of everyone in it. I’m passionate about making sure no one feels overlooked or unsupported. Thank you for reading, and I hope I can count on your vote!!! 3
