MY GORGEOUS FREESTYLERS!!! As I hope you all know by now, I’m Eleanor, your current VP and (fingers crossed) your future president. Writing this feels so surreal, mainly because it feels like I was a fresher about five minutes ago even though it’s actually been two years (and yes, I do still dress like one at socials, some things never change). Before uni I wasn’t able to dance for a while, and being stripped of something that was important to me was so tough but it really showed me how much I love it, so naturally, when I found Freestyle I threw myself headfirst into it and I couldn't be happier that I did. Freestyle is one of those societies that sneaks up on you. I joined thinking it’ll just be something fun to do, but it's turned into my entire personality, where I found my best friends and the reason I own far too many stupid outfits for socials lol.

At its core, Freestyle is about its people. Whether you’re competing, coming to classes, or just here for a great social, you should feel welcomed and supported. As president, I want to make sure everyone feels that and that this society keeps being the place we all fall a little bit in love with.

To make this experience as special as possible for everyone, organisation is key, and being on committee this year has shown me just how important it is to stay ahead of everything. One of the biggest changes I want to push for is starting competition team rehearsals earlier. You guys bring so much talent and passion, there's no doubt about that, but having more time to clean and perfect pieces would give us the best possible chance at competitions to perform confidently, with choreography fully locked in, no more last minute panicking before the stage.

I also want to campaign for better space within the union so we can run more consistent events, with the reliable space we can have more classes and opportunities to push ourselves, stay active, and for some people, fall back in love with dance, which is something I care about so much. Another huge part of making this society run smoothly is communication. I want to have more regular committee meetings where we all leave with clear goals, so we can pass information on to you quickly and clearly about where and when you're needed and what exciting opportunities are coming up.

Speaking of exciting things,I really want to create more opportunities for everyone to perform. For those who aren’t on competition teams, I’d love to open up a chance to be involved in the LUU showcase at the end of the year. It gives more people the ability to get on stage, and can build your guys' dancing ability, confidence and hopefully inspire more people to audition again, helping us keep our teams as strong as possible

I’m already so excited for competitions next year, after being such a big part of choreography and ideas this year, I can't wait to see how we carry on improving ourselves.We’re so lucky to have such a diverse group of dancers in our society and so I believe it's time to introduce our first ever Ballet competition group. So many of you have a Ballet background and with such a strong group showing up for our showcase routine it's only right to show you off on a bigger stage.

There've been so many highlights this year for freestyle dance, some of the silliest socials of my life, amazing competition routines and truly the most incredible members. It would be such an honour to help carry on this extraordinary society.
