Hi everyone! My name is Aleks, and I’m a first-year medical student passionate about hospital radio, research, and sustainability. Over the past three years at Radio Cherwell, I’ve grown from an inexperienced 17-year-old co-presenter into a confident broadcaster, podcast creator, and mentor. On the Weekend for Everything Show, I worked on live broadcasts for sick children on hospital wards, building strong skills in presenting, teamwork, and audience engagement through supporting families and handing out gifts to their children. I have also been able to train our newest members to become more confident in their approach towards operating our OB desk and interacting with patients on the wards.

Alongside this, I created and host Science and Beyond, a pre-recorded podcast on Spotify where I independently plan, produce, and present episodes that make complex science accessible and engaging. I’ve sourced and interviewed guests, including Deputy CEO of The Sleep Charity, Lisa Artis, and diabetes researcher, Dr Daniela Nastaseka, developing my skills in research, interviewing, and storytelling. Technically, I’m confident using Trapsound for scheduling, editing, and running shows, and I’m keen to further develop my skills on studio desks and more advanced production setups.

My work has been recognised with the Peter Baker Award, and I was appointed the youngest trustee of Radio Cherwell, giving me valuable leadership experience and insight into how a station operates. My role also includes contributing to periodical newsletters, creating new initiatives (such as a recent competition in my local schools) and attending the HBA awards. I’m always eager to learn, improve, and experiment with new ideas, and I’m particularly passionate about promoting sustainability through radio. I’m excited to bring my experience, initiative, and enthusiasm to the role of Head of Podcasting at Leeds Student Radio.
