Hi, I’m Nathanael Turner, and I’m running to be your new Head of Music. I have consistently demonstrated my comitment to making Music on Leeds Student Radio (LSR) sound exceptional, and so far at LSR I have:

- presented and produced three Music Shows;
- announced #1 whilst presenting the National Student Radio Chart Show;
- been Winter Awards nominated for the ‘Overpass’ Interview;
- been nominated for a National Student Radio Amplify Award; and
- won a Special Recognition for Outstanding Contribution to Music Programming.

And I’m just getting started!

As your new Head of Music, I cannot wait to turn the tables and start LSR dancing into a new era. My experience means my ideas won’t get lost in the Mix, and together we have a plan.

My vision:

Musical Diversity is at the heart of my vision for LSR.
The University of Leeds is a beautiful, energetic blend of cultures and experience, and I want LSR’s music programming to accurately honour that variety and vibrancy. I want:

- to replicate the BBC Asian Network model and guarantee Asian music programming on LSR;
- to spotlight underserved genres and members of the LSR community; for example, Jungle, Latin, Neurodiverse programming. LSR should be accessible for all, I want to make it happen.
- to introduce themed programming celebrating marginalised groups for International Women’s Day, Pride Month, Black History Month, among others.

Radio DJs put an incredible amount of time and effort into building their show’s identity, and LSR has something for everyone, so it’s about time we shouted about it. I want to:

- further integrate Social Media promotion into the normal show routine, including Social Media training for all Music DJs;
- spearhead a physical promotional campaign – using my experience promoting Northern Soul at Hi-Fi; and
- encourage playlists/content curated by show hosts, enhancing LSR’s digital/Spotify presence to unlock greater ‘listen on demand’ potential.

There’s more to the role than just programming though. I pledge to:

- continue and reinforce LSR’s vital links with music industry figures, maintaining the high interview standard and strong live event presence set by my incredible predecessors, including the direction of the ‘Transmission’ festival;
- consult the Leeds community on how LSR can speak to them, it’s time and I’m listening; and
- provide hosts, interviewers and new members with clearer tutorials on broadcast and interview procedure, ensuring LSR stays accessible to all.

One thing is clear. I have a vision for the next year of Music at LSR. So vote Nathanael #1 for Head of Music and Press Play on LSR’s Potential. I can’t wait to get started.

Hi, I am Kieran, and I am running to be your next Head of Music at LSR! Over my time at the station I have had the pleasure of presenting Live and Local, Album Review and interviewed artists, bands and industry professionals live on air. Absolutely every bit of it has reminded me why I love music, in a world where we are ever more divided, music has the power to bring us together.

Music discovery is at the heart of what I want to do with this role. In an age where algorithms decide what we listen to, radio remains one of the last great ways to stumble across something that genuinely surprises you and LSR could be leading that charge on the student front. I want LSR to be the place you turn to when you want to find your next favourite song/artist/album/mix. From electronic and experimental sounds to non-western music and non-commercial artists flying under the radar, I want LSR to span the full breadth of what music has to offer. By championing that kind of variety, I believe we can build a more engaged, more curious, and more passionate listener community. If you have got ideas, I want to hear them!

Hi, I'm Aoife and I'm running for Head of Music 26/27! In this role, I would bring a huge passion for live music and music journalism, looking to find ways to support even more small artists through LSR. I've been an enthusiastic and committed part of the music team this year, presenting both the Live and Local and Indie and Alternative shows for two semesters (and loving every minute of both!). The local scene is Leeds is vibrant and diverse, and I would love to have this variety continually reflected in the output of the music teams, for example through social media content and press opportunities engaging with artists from many different genres. I also have a couple of years of experience planning gigs, and am not shy when it comes to reaching out to artists, so I'd use this to plan the best possible Transmission Festival that represents who we are as LSR (and is incredibly fun for all!!). If elected Head of Music, I will aim to continue to foster a welcoming, positive environment within the Music Team, in which people feel comfortable to try new things and meet new people. These are the things I have loved most about LSR since I joined, and I would love to part of the committee who makes them happen.

Hey! I'm Naomi, a first year English and Music BA student at UOL. I chose this degree because I'm really interested in music and music journalism! The opportunity to be Head of Music would allow me to express my passion for music whilst also learning more about music media and journalism. I have experience working with committees and could bring a high level of teamworking and professionality to role.
My main goals as Head of Music are to:
- Ensure no student feels intimidated by the radio process, by improving training and signage so that everyone has the opportunity to express themselves creatively, without stress.
- Create more connections between LSR members, especially cross-uni connections, so that we can all share and learn from each other.
- Build on the amazing work previous committees have done to make Transmission 2027 even bigger and better!

I'm running for Head of Music because I want LSR to feel like a place where everyone can get involved, not just the experienced people. I’m already an active member of LSR, I love discovering new music so I can share it with other people and I also have experience in events planning. For me, it’s about making LSR more inclusive, more creative and overall more exciting to be part of and I want people to feel confident putting themselves out there and trying something new, which I believe I can help with. Also I work for Merlin Entertainment during the holidays so if you vote for me, I'll get you a ticket to Legoland.
