Hometime not only introduced me to radio, but also was where I met some of the loveliest people! I would love to be Head of Hometime so the show can continue to be a joyful and happy community that brightens people’s evenings! Hometime is always the highlight of my week, never failing to end in laughter (sometimes to the point of tears!) I have been apart of Hometime since my first semester. Over this time, I have grown significantly more confident with presenting, and organising shows. I would encourage groups to take turns on controls so everyone has an opportunity to learn the technical side behind radio. I found Hometime an excellent introduction to radio as a whole, and thanks to what I learnt in first semester, I felt comfortable driving various more shows in second semester! Ultimately, I’d like to give back to a society which I have loved being apart of!
If I was elected, there are three areas I would like to focus on. Firstly, for Hometime in general, I would like to encourage recurring segments. For instance, fun games like ‘Real or Fake’, ‘Love it or Leave it’, ‘Would you rather’, ‘Kiss Marry Kill’ help provide structure, especially when the groups are still getting to know each other, while also allowing the groups the freedom to put in their own twist. I would like to shake up the discussions by encouraging groups to take Hometime out of the studio. Whether for the classic, ‘Hometime from the Pub’, or debriefing ‘Hometime takes on X activity’, I think this could bring some fresh ideas to discussions!
Next, I would like to make the student body more aware of LSR so more people tune in! I would encourage teams to post regularly on social media, especially with funny reels which my Hometime group love making! We have received a really great outreach through these reels (with many friends from outside radio or from home sending them to me…) Moreover, in connection to recurring segments, I would like to share themes for the week, such as Valentines, Halloween, Varsity, etc. The groups could bring this into their social media content by doing on campus interviews if they wanted to! Hopefully by increasing the number of listeners, we could incorporate more audience-based games.
Finally, the main area I would like to focus on is socials! Radio has helped me build such a lovely community, and more regular socials would only build on that! I would love to also have a range of types of socials so everyone would have a chance to attend, ranging from Boogaloo nights out, sober socials to cute cafes or activities around Leeds, to Hometime wide pub trips. My experience on radio would not be the same without the amazing people I have done Hometime with, and hopefully socials would enable people to make equally as lovely friendships! This genuine friendship is what, I believe, makes the best shows! As such, by building our own little Hometime family there could be more opportunities for collaborations. Equally, I would also love to organise socials with other shows, like Breakfast, or with the whole society!
