Hi, I'm Francis Ellis, I’m a 1st year English student and I'm running for the position of Development Secretary- I believe that I am the right person for the role as I want to make this already amazing society bigger and better.
Firstly, I think my personality makes me a great option for Dev sec- I’m approachable, patient and socially outgoing- perfect for organising and coaching the many people in our development squads. I also have committee-type experience, as in secondary school I was on the senior leadership team, helping to organise charity and school events, demonstrating my organisational capability.
Secondly, I have ideal experience in Tennis Development- I have over 4 years of tennis coaching under my belt. In this time, I have helped to develop a love and talent for tennis in people of all age groups and ability levels at both my local club, in individual lessons, and in beginner sessions. Furthermore, I have been fortunate to have been coached from the age of 4, have played competitive tennis for most of my life and currently play in Uni of Leeds BUCS program. These factors combined mean that I believe that I can effectively coach the Development squad in a way that will improve the standard and enjoyment of tennis all round.
Most importantly, this year I have coached Uni development sessions, where I believe I have made an overall positive impact. I have tried to offer any advice and individual coaching to development squad members on a consistent basis. I have also tried to make the Devs training experience more enjoyable and fun, ie by suggesting that we have music playing in the sessions, which over the last few sessions have boosted the vibe in my opinion.
If I were to be picked I would
• Continue to innovate to make devs an even more enjoyable environment for all members
• Make sure that all devs players have more coaching available to them by establishing closer relationships between the coaches and players
• Attempt to ensure more friendly fixtures are organised for devs players wishing to compete.
This position would mean so much to me, as I joined tennis in September unsure of what it would be like and I have been so happily surprised by how great it has been. If I were to get this committee role, I would try hard to make your experience of Tennis even better than mine has been, so please vote for me!!!!
