Hi I’m Jess, a first year English Literature with History of Art student and I would love for the opportunity to be Secretary of the Art Society. From my time as a current Life Drawing/General Assistance Secretary (you might recognise me as the girl with the beret at the door), I have quickly learned the importance of staying highly organised, as I have quickly adapted to the society’s bustling nature, having assisted the set-up of weekly life drawing sessions and workshops. I am conscientious, caring, trustworthy, approachable and polite; these are attributes which I found to be immensely helpful while volunteering time at charity shops and working at takeaways where I had the valuable experience of engaging with customers in person, over the phone and over emails, where clarity of communication was key. My current volunteer work with Leeds Rotaract Club has provided me with a sense of close community – a sense that I want to encourage and nurture by continuing ArtSoc’s newfound relationship with Wapentake by hosting more Drink and Draw socials, workshops and exhibitions with the Event Secretaries. I even hope to lead trips to galleries and spaces outside of Leeds to inspire the creative energies of new and current members as I love discussing all things arty and have greatly enjoyed seeing others’ art during and after life drawing. As an enthusiastic artist myself who competes in local and national art competitions because of my constant scribbling of marker, watercolour, gouache and photoshopped portraits, I want to extend this passion to everyone by collaborating with other societies in themed life drawings, workshops and socials. Because art is such an expressive and creative medium, I believe it can help other societies incite more awareness and fun through collaboration. I would love to be the medium between the committee and it’s partnerships, whether it be by sending numerous emails, liaising with the Union, running around Leeds or by sitting down and chatting over tea with a pen in my hand, I am eager to support the Art Society in whatever way I can. Most importantly, if I were to be voted as Secretary I would help my fellow committee members with making sure they are not overwhelmed by their workload, so that we can stay as a friendly and happy team - I have quickly learned how easily the pressure of work and Uni life can build up, so I want to ensure that no one is feeling burnt out. Hello I’m emilia Bryant I’m a first year studying fine art with contemporary cultural theory. I’m an organised and enthusiastic individual passionate about art and event management. I’ve worked as an art teaching assistant recently and young scout leader in the past so Im experienced in coordinating events. I would love to take up this position.
