Heyy my name is Yasmin Ramadan and I’ll be going into my second year in Leeds. I am an international student from Egypt with an extensive art background and this is why I want to apply for the role of the Art Society President. I’ve been the Event Secretary this year so you might have seen me around at some events! I loved working with the Art Society and believe that I can now take on a bigger role within the society.


I love all sorts of art related things. Doing Art A-level, I was able to experiment with different styles and mediums. My main focus is on portrait paintings with either watercolour or oil and I would really like to organise an oil painting event in the future. Constantly juggling between abstract and realistic styles I find it extremely fun to do both! I also do a bit of nail art and love expressing myself by experimenting with patterns and colours. I believe that it's very important to try out different art styles and mediums to find out what you enjoy the most and would love to nurture this by organising a variety of events to allow members to experience and find their niche.


I was elected to be an Art prefect for two consecutive years. This position allowed me to develop my creative and managing skills because I was responsible for organising activities such as art exhibitions and talent shows. Later I was also chosen for the role of the Head Girl. My responsibilities included liaising with a variety of stakeholders like students, teachers and parents as well as leading a group of prefects. This is why I have experience of being in leadership and I can manage responsibility and my time successfully.


Living in three countries I was able to familiarize myself with different cultures and traditions. I would love to be able to celebrate the multinationalism of Leeds by organizing a variety of events inspired by traditional art styles from places all over the world! Knowing three languages I believe that my international background can help other international students in ArtSoc feel more comfortable:)


I am very excited about the role and have a lot of ideas about collaborations with other societies and creative socials. This year was a blast for Art Society, and I am really looking forward to having the same energy for the next year!

Hello, I am Amy Penrose, a 3rd year English Literature student, and former committee member. In my 4th and final year, I would love to be President of Art Society.
I worked closely with Poppy, our penultimate president. I was attuned to the scheduling she did, and the organisation of people internal to the committee that was involved. The levity that she brought to the committee defined the energy of the society, and I would love to continue that.
I was previously Art Society Social Secretary (when that role was Event Secretary and Social Secretary combined). I ran events through the pandemic, so I am accustomed to adapting to constantly changing situations. I curated the 2020 exhibition in a 3D environment and earnt LUU’s Society Star award for Best Event, and we also got were awarded best new society.
I have a real passion for creating. I grew up in a family of artists, did A level art, and now sell my oil painting portraits. I love to try new and random mediums, and therefore would love to brainstorm more workshops like oven bake clay or embroidery workshops that our Event Secretaries can make their own. Committee members helping each other is something I am passionate about encouraging, so no one feels overwhelmed by their role’s workload.
I also think the social elements of art society are so important. Meeting people in breaks between life drawing classes have been some of my favourite experiences at Leeds and I would love to continue to enable this!
On a practical level that you would of course need from a President, I am good at organising, as I was nominated team leader in my DofE gold team, and in my NCS team I was managing director. I have had a great deal of responsibility in my jobs in a Coffee House and at the Henley Regatta.
