Becoming a part of Leeds Barbell has been the best part of my university experience by far. Joining 2 years ago as just a member opened me up to a community of like-minded individuals who are all striving to become the best versions of themselves, not only within the sport of powerlifting, but in their everyday lives as well.

The environment is one of encouragement, discipline and shared ambition and it’s something that has genuinely shaped my time at university. People I met just two years ago have become some of my closest friends and I am incredibly grateful for those relationships, as they are the reason I hold this society so close to my heart.

Through my time in the club, I’ve seen firsthand what makes Leeds Barbell so special. The support on the platform, the friendships formed in training sessions and the collective pride we take in each other’s progress.

I am running for President because I want to expand the community that has provided me with so much. I want the opportunity to step up and lead Leeds Barbell in a way that preserves everything that makes it great, while also pushing it to grow and improve. My goal is to continue fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where every member, whether they are brand new to lifting or competing at a high level, feels valued and motivated to grow.

As President, I would focus on strengthening the sense of community within the club, increasing engagement across all levels and ensuring that every member has access to the support and opportunities they need to progress. I want to build on our presence in competitions creating a strong emphasis on events such as northern universities for lifters that are new or intermediate to the sport as well as creating pathways for competitors that have their eyes set on competitions such as BUCS.

Ultimately, I care deeply about this society and the people in it. I’m committed to putting in the time, energy and effort required to lead effectively and to represent the values that Leeds Barbell stands for. I want to help shape the club’s future so that it can continue to have the same positive impact on others as it has had on me.

Joining Leeds Barbell has made an enormous impact to my university experience, and life as a whole. Since starting powerlifting 2 years ago, I have developed a real love for the sport. More importantly, I have found a community that has supported me, built my confidence, and pushed me to be my best. Both in and out of the gym, the members of Leeds barbell are really what make the club so special.

I am running for president because I want to give back to the club that has given me so much. I would love to pass on the same support, motivation, and sense of belonging that I have experienced, and continue to build an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members.
