Nomination for President:

As president is usually the least applied for role, I’m taking one for the team and putting my name forward to kick off the election process, but also because I do want to do it in my final year at uni.

I’ll be coming into my 8th season of playing this sport since starting in 2015. I currently play all year long at both the uni-ball level in autumn/winter and adult-ball level in the spring/summer.

I’ve gone through the whole bafa process, from playing 5v5 flag, to 5v5 contact, 7v7, 9v9 and 11v11. Although I may be the most experienced player in the team, and encountered many of the highs and lows that this sport can provide, I am still learning and developing every season.

What I’ve never had the opportunity to do is to become a president of a team, or something alike. I’ve previously been in the committee as kit sec, and next season I’m looking to step up into a more influential position in the team, and I believe my passion for the sport and the team will motivate me enough to run the club as fluidly and successfully as possible, with the help of a strong committee.

As an economics student I have a good understanding of finances so would be able to work closely with the treasurer and secretary to ensure that the club remains in a good position financially, as well as hopefully securing more funding from the union. As many of you are aware, I am also currently on a placement year in London doing economics. During this year I have learned many key skills that can be directly applied to the presidential role such as management, time efficiency, leadership and teamwork.

Watching most of the season virtually on film and in person on the sidelines, made it clear to me that I truly believe we are 1 season away from winning the chip. The team culture we have created since the 0-8 season in 2021, all the talented people coming back from placement, the majority of this current season’s very successful team staying, and the recruitment that I’ve already heard about, puts us at an invaluable position to start next season. Let us not forget all the talented and hardworking coaches that are all volunteers, and give up their free time because they believe in the team and believe in making all of us better American football players and people in general.

If you vote for me as president, I believe I can lead this team to not only another fun year of university sport, but also to that D1 National Championship win, which we so narrowly missed out on achieving this season. Next year is our year to win it all.

Unfortunately I cannot be at Old Boys this year as I’m playing in an adult-ball game that weekend, but looking forward to seeing all of you in September as either your president or teammate, and in Magaluf if your going on tour.

Presidents Application

Hello everyone,

This year I will be running for president, I am hoping to use the experience I have gained this year as Secretary to ensure a smooth running of the club. Being in the top 3 this year has given me an insight into what being the President would involve, I think some of the challenges we have faced this year within the top 3 have been down to the lack of experience we had as a committee, as none of us had much idea what to expect. However, I hope this year this will be less of an issue as we will have a greater understanding of how the club can run.

That being said, some of the things I would like to prioritise if I was made President are:

Firstly, I would like to relax the pressure on financial commitments to the club, as students money is always an issue and that has been apparent this year both from a players standpoint but also the club. To try reduce this pressure next year I would like to reduce the costs to players by aiming to secure greater funding from the union. Coupled with potentially closer away fixtures next year I hope this would be achievable.

Secondly, I would like to get people involved into the wider Gryphon community. Whilst a Wednesday night Mischief is great, I think some of the best socials have been events like the Team curry, Super Bowl and Sundays at Dry Dock. I would like to encourage these next year as I think they build team spirit which is what the Gryphons are all about!

Finally, I aim to carry forward the spirit we have created over the past two seasons since I joined as a Gryphon, I think we can all agree last season exceeded all of our expectations and I wish to take that forward next year to bring home that Div 1 championship.

I have been apart of the team for 2 years now and would relish the opportunity to be the president.

I will be on placement this year in Leeds, I will still be able to make training and games, just maybe a few less Wednesday nights...
