Hi everyone!
My name is Anabelle and I’m in my first year studying Biomedical Science. I joined freestyle this year and its quite honestly the best decision I’ve ever made! Having danced all my life, I thought that going to university meant I wouldn’t be able to be a part of a dance family anymore, but Freestyle has quite simply proved me wrong. I could not think of a more friendly, welcoming society to be a part of, and I would be so incredibly proud to be on its committee.

Having struggled a lot this year with the change that university brings, freestyle has helped me massively and I want to be able to repay the society for what it has done for me. I think welfare rep would be the perfect way to do this as I would love to be the friendly face that so many of the current committee have been to me, and my hope would be that people feel that they can approach me at any time. I’m always down for a catch up and will listen to whatever anyone wants to talk about.

Comp season is a real highlight of the year (and my personal favourite) but I know it can bring up a lot of anxiety around performing at such high level competitions. As welfare sec, I would ensure that support is available especially around this time through one-on-one chats or drop-in sessions. I think that mental health is so important especially at university, and there should always be a conversation about it. I would be committed to ensuring that the society is well equipped to provide support to those who need it and is a warm and welcoming environment that’s judgment free :)

I do love a good Wednesday night social ;) but also think that sober socials are a cute way to really get to know each other and form friendships. I plan to work with the social secs to come up with some wholesome activities that will bring all freestylers closer together.

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to articulate how much freestyle has shaped my first-year experience in such a positive way and although I hope to be able to give back by being on the committee, I cannot wait for a whole other year of freestyle fun either way.

Most of you probably know me as Rachel Green but my name is actually Rachel Stephens :) Turning up to Freestyle’s first social on my own was so scary but walking away with a new family was the best start to my first year possible. Since then with every social, class and competition I’ve become so much closer to my freestyle family and I can’t imagine my uni experience without them! This is a feeling I want everyone - first to final years - to experience through joining a society!

As welfare sec I would like to continue the welcoming environment I have experienced this year, as well as creating even more opportunities for Freestylers to make and build friendships, which I know will last for a lifetime!! That being different years, comp team members, those at open classes, or those who just come for the socials!
This would include working with the social secs to plan some sober and/or casual socials (outside Wednesday nights), providing support through auditions (which can seem daunting at the start of the year!) and comp season, which has been the highlight of my year so far.
It’s so important to have a friendly face to find in classes or on a night out and believe I am an approachable person to come to if members are feeling worried or anxious in or out of the studio! I’ve also missed about 3 socials all year so you can count on me being out on a Wednesday night (probs in the most embarrassing outfit with some kind of paint on my face :D)
I’d love to make welfare sec a more prominent role in the society and believe I could bring a lot to the role and to committee as a whole! Regardless, I’m so excited for another year being in the best society with you all and don’t want to think about those who are moving on!! 3

Hey, I'm Tasha and I would love to be your welfare sec next year!!

I cannot express how much freestyle has made my first year, Wednesdays are the absolute highlight of my week and comps could only be described by one word... Insane! I have made so many amazing memories and met so many lovely people I'm lucky enough to call friends. Next year I would love to be a bigger part of the society and I promise to continue and build the supportive and welcoming environment that freestyle has shown me this year.

The beginning of uni and joining a new society whether a fresher, 2nd or 3rd year can be quite daunting; next year I will welcome any newcomers, encourage them to get involved and organise some more opportunities for people to get to know each other better. This could be more GlAG's or working with social secs on sober socials, some ideas I have include bowling, candle painting or going for a meal.
Also I hope to be someone anyone can go to for support, as having struggled with my own mental health I can offer advice to the best of my ability, signpost services that help and most importantly listen. I would also work with PR sec to put more conversations about mental health and looking after your well-being on social media.
Overall I can't wait for next year with freestyle, I love coming to all the Wednesday socials, events and classes so will always be a friendly face to approach. I would love to be a bigger part of Freestyle and feel like I can bring lots to the society as welfare sec, but no matter what I'm always around for anyone who wants to talk. And remember please look after yourselves this exam session, remember to take a break and don't be too hard on yourself.
