Social Secretary is one of the most enjoyable and important roles within the committee, being at the forefront of the society’s social side and helping to create the atmosphere and events that bring everyone together. This role requires somebody who is organised, approachable and creative, and who can work well with the rest of the team to come up with new and exciting ideas for socials throughout the year.

Whether it be the regular Wednesday night socials, bigger events such as a Super Bowl watch party, or other themed nights across the year, social sec requires good planning in order to organise events in advance, promote them well, and make sure they run smoothly. Communication is key, both with the rest of the committee and with members, to ensure socials are inclusive, enjoyable and well attended.

I would recommend this role to anyone who wants to play a big part in shaping the social side of the society and making sure members have a great experience both on and off the pitch. It is a really rewarding position, as you get to see the impact of the events you organise and help create some of the best memories of the year. I would also add that this role is what you make it. The best socials do not organise themselves, so you have to be proactive, enthusiastic and willing to put ideas into action.

It is also a great thing to talk about on your CV and in interviews, as it demonstrates key transferable skills such as organisation, teamwork, communication and event planning.
