Hello!

I think I would be a great Speakers Officer for the following reasons.

I am passionate about not just transport (obviously) but also how it intersects with other disciplines and areas of society. My vision for a Speakers programme would seek to broaden the scope of transport, hearing from technical experts within the field but also experts in other fields and industries where there are interesting interactions (such as public health and politics). A key focus for me this year would be the intersection with accessibility, social inclusion, and equality.

I previously worked for two years in public affairs/public relations within the planning/transport sector. This has given me a great insight into the industry, and also a strong network of professional and political contacts which could be drawn upon to secure great speakers.

I am an experienced public speaker and do genuinely enjoy talking to a large audience! I can demonstrate experience of this professionally (addressing Council meetings and briefing senior politicians), but also through extra-curricular activities such as student theatre and my role as Accommodations and Buildings Officer on my College Student Union (at Undergraduate).

I would take an enthusiastic and proactive approach to being Speakers Officer. Aside from talks and seminar events, other potential options I could explore include a podcast (of course!), walking tours, and partnerships with other Universities and transport-related organisations.
