To all LUUTIS members,

My name is Carl Shangjing Yow, a penultimate year economics and finance student. This is a statement as to why I am running for LUUTIS’ vice president role for the 25/26 academic term.

My motivation to run for vice president stems from the margin of improvements I identified along with the potential of LUUTIS. As an enthusiastic student who wants to break into finance, I aim to create an incubator for every student who aspire to work in the financial sector.

The first step to improvement is to elevate members’ technical proficiency in tandem with creating opportunities for members to apply what they have learnt. "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.", this quote from Benjamin Franklin exhibits the importance of applying our knowledge – especially in the financial sector, where practical experience is essential.

Subsequently, for LUUTIS to be pivotal in members’ job application process, I aim to create our own internship/placement application tracker. Furthermore, to better prepare our members, I aim to establish a mentorship/buddy scheme for members to gain insights on their desired finance career or even build a long-lasting relationship with industry professionals and alumni.

Eventually, I plan for LUUTIS to take on a bigger role in the university by establishing a student-led investment fund. This investment fund offers a whole new opportunity for members to be a portfolio manager or equity research analyst for the university while assisting in growing its capital.

Lastly, I look forward to working with the upcoming committees to lead LUUTIS to greater heights.

As a Second-Year Computer Science student, I bring both analytical expertise and leadership experience to LUUTIS. Having interned at a high-frequency trading firm and managed a £1 million portfolio at LUUTIS Virtual Fund with a team of 12 analysts, I understand the importance of strategic decision-making and collaborative growth.

Beyond investments, I have been an active member of LUUTIS, participating in socials, career events, and the virtual fund. This involvement has given me a well-rounded perspective on how we can further enhance both the learning and networking opportunities for our members.

The last committee set a high standard, making LUUTIS more dynamic and engaging than ever. I am eager to build on their success and ensure we continue to grow, innovate, and provide even greater opportunities for our members.

As Vice President, I will focus on enhancing research quality, refining investment strategies, and ensuring LUUTIS remains a premier platform for hands-on learning and financial excellence. I’ll work closely with the team to provide analysts with more opportunities to develop their skills, optimize our decision-making process, and drive stronger returns.
