Hi! I am Vicky, a first year economics student and I am running for the role of the treasurer for next year’s RAG committee.

Studying economics has given me a deeper understanding of profit and loss accounting as well as balance sheets. Being very familiar with Excel will allow me to organise figures effectively. This will allow me to manage budgets efficiently and maximise income and fundraising for enticing events, such as the fashion show (which was so fun this year!) for RAG.

Also, I was involved in the ‘Wellbeing’ committee in my sixth form, where I budgeted many charity events. I kept costs low and found various sources of finance. On one of our charity events, we were able to achieve a high-profit margin. I hope to do the same with RAG.

Having a part-time job along with my studies has developed my time management and organisational skills, which will be essential in planning budgets. I was able to grow my communication and teamwork skills, which will be vital in helping the society in areas other than finance, collaborating to create memorable events and being involved with every other committee member. Being a mathematics tutor gave me responsibility and helped me develop my interpersonal skills with many students, which I hope to use and build further rapport with partnerships to get the lowest price for RAG. I believe my wealth of skills and experience will allow me to succeed in this role.

Taking the role of a treasurer would be a new challenge: being able to apply my financial skills at a larger scale and an experience I would be able to learn from, which I could use in my career. I aim to improve and organise the efficiency and cash flow management to maximise funds and benefits for RAG and members. I would love to build new relationships with people as well as raise funds and giving back to the wider community in Leeds. I hope to bring lots to the role, so please vote for me! #VoteVicky
