I’m Niharika Chittaranjan, a second year Economics student at the University of Leeds. As someone who’s been a Taylor Swift fan for as long as I can remember, I am excited to announce my candidacy for Secretary of the Swift Society! Meeting so many wonderful and likeminded people at board game nights and karaoke has made me want to contribute towards creating such a supportive environment for everyone. I am deeply aware of how music really brings people together and, in my third year, I aim to make the University experience less challenging and more bejewelled.

As Secretary, my primary goal would be to ensure a continuous flow of communication between the committee as well as society members. This would involve maintaining accurate and updated records of activities, events, responsibilities, and decisions. If elected, I will also be firmly committed towards advancing the overall culture of inclusivity and engagement within the society. By encouraging open communication, I will ensure that every member is provided the opportunity to share their ideas on activities or improvements.

Moreover, I believe that my experiences in leading fundraising campaigns for various causes has honed my skillset. As an international student, I have spent significant time working on projects both in the UK and India. These involved providing updates to charity heads, delegating tasks to team members and organizing regular meetings, setting internal deadlines, and encouraging both donor and team feedback. This has developed my ability to work in a team, communicate information, and handle important documents. I also work with the University presently to raise money for scholarships! By doing so over the phone, I have learned to remain patient in high-pressure situations and that listening to people makes all the difference. Lastly, I promise you can always count on me to get your song references, Taylor Swift or otherwise.
