Hi I am Shaumy and I am a second year medical student.
I would like to become the international rep because I understand how intimidating new students could feel when they are about to join societies, especially when they are from a different country. By creating inclusive and reflective events, I will make sure to give a warm welcome to the international students and make them feel that they have a lot of support from everyone, and that they have fully been integrated into the Leeds Tamil Society.
I also am aware that living in a new country, city, can be really overwhelming as they may feel that there aren’t people to interact with but I am sure that if I get the opportunity to become the international rep, I will make sure all the events organised are very inclusive and are suitable for anyone and everyone interested. This will ensure you to mingle with many people and interact with others and create cultural connection with one another.

One thing that I will ensure as a international representative is that the society events are tailored towards interests of all and therefore will cater to diverse needs of all students including the international students and make sure no one feels left out and are encouraged to come to society events. I would like to emphasise that the society is an environment with open space and therefore you can actively engage and thrive without the fear of judgement as it is a friendly place to interact with people of the same culture.

If I am chosen to be international rep, I will ensure to mingle with other members of the committee easily and make sure the society is promoted well. Having such a strong passion to work in the team of the society, I hope you chose me for this position.
