I would like to focus more on the promotion of the club on social media. Through more posts about our members and events/competitions such as Northern University Championships and BUCS.

Promote the club awareness, especially with first years. I am hoping to use the edge as a place of promotion for the club as it is the gym that many first year’s use. This way we can get more first years promoting our club which will hopefully lead to more people joining even in later years when they see the impact a club like ours can have, on their friends who joined in first year. This will help us further promote the benefits of being a part of our club, awareness of our sports. It will also bring us more income to help fund equipment, travel support and socials.

New competition shirts which have initials on them and possibly slightly different design and have them better fitted.

Promote events such as Sheffield and try to fund travel for these events. Other events could include group travel to BUCS.

Try to get more training hours in the new strength and conditioning facility for next year by getting in early to get better/more time slots.

Overall, I would like to keep pushing the club to grow and to support all members to achieve their goals the way that they want to. I intend to listen to the wants of our members and do what I can to improve the club for everyone.

My name is Ella Rose, and as you can probably tell from this nomination, I am putting myself forward for president for next year’s academic year. You may know me from either screaming after making a lift, being pretty chatty (tipsy) at socials, or being Barbell’s no.1 supporter.
Having been a member of the society for the entirety of my undergraduate course, and a member of the committee for two years running, thought it could be fun to put myself forward for president.
Yes, I did write on my poster “bigger and better” because we, after all, are the strongest club on campus so why not get stronger – and bigger – at the same time?? To do this, yes it does mean less alcohol intake but what does that mean? More sober socials, more climbing, more ice skating (watch me fall flat on my face) and maybe the odd mischief……

My role as president means overall running of the society, which means what?
- more (and hopefully better times) training sessions, I would like to include a third session, aimed at our non-powerlifters/weightlifters for a more inclusive society!
- I promise I will not just play my DnB music at training now, we can attempt to create a playlist for training, with everyone’s PB songs – let’s face it, at least one of us will attempt to PB at each session
- more charity events
- competing teams…? and merch t-shirts
- a couple of seminars with guest speakers
- creating inclusive and supportive environments for a range of abilities

I love Leeds barbell, probably a little too much @will poulter 3, and it has helped me become the person I am today – mainly from seeing all your beautiful faces each week.

While I may be at Leeds Beckett studying Physiotherapy (free massages?), I’m committed to making this society bigger and better (running theme) over the next year, working with you all to find out what you want the most, and of course, making us the best and strongest society on campus!
