I am running to be re-elected as the Debate Society’s Treasurer!

As the Debate Soc’s Treasurer, my main aim is to manage the society’s finances precisely and timely, supporting the smooth operation of the society now and in the future, as I have been doing so this academic year.

This includes:
• Ensuring the society has the cash on hand to meet its financial obligations as they come due
• Ensuring the precise collection of funds, such as membership and competition fees
• Aiming to collect grants from the Union with increased timeliness and support the activities of the Leeds Debate Soc by doing so
• Providing cost calculations and managing the budget to ensure that all planned events have the necessary financial backing with the lowest possible price for our members
• Work together with the social secretary, event organiser, competitions officer, vice president and president to ensure the smooth running and efficient management of the Debate Soc

And I also…
• Run Debating Sessions😎(big social goer, what can I say..)
• Come up with a LOT of motions & Help make the slides
• Judge competitive
• Try to make everyone feel welcome and strive to make everyone have a good time !!!

And in addition to this, the next academic year I will:
• Secure financing for more complex activities, socials AND more competitions (Hopefully, which are gonna be fun for everyone!!)
• Introduce different merchandise (e.g., Quarter zips, Hoodies, Sweatshirts, or anything in demand) - Provide necessary cost calculations&budgeting; Manage the associated collection of funds and outflows regarding purchases
• Working closely with the committee to assist them with any financial needs, as well as help and advise people on their decisions or when in doubt

I would be a great fit for this role not only because I am the current treasurer but also because I’m a second-year Econ&Finance student here at Leeds. Moreover, I have gained valuable experience managing a company’s finances, including securing financing, liquidity management, making bank transfers, and billing.

The Debate Soc is a lovely and endearing community, which I would love to keep contributing to in the future! I love u guys 3
