Head of music is a big undertaking but is arguably one of the most rewarding roles at LSR. From organising transmission, to creating weekly playlists, to choosing the team of presenters each semester, you will be in charge of the sound of LSR to a large degree.

Transmission: each year the two of you will work alongside the station manager and the head of live to organise the biggest live event of the year. Typically held at Belgrave and always to raise funds for MAP Charity, the event is a great way to get experience in events management and working with artists to ensure they’re catered for in terms of travel and accommodation. We have a few changes to make regarding the organisation of the event but it is a great challenge and a very important event for LSR.

Playlist survey and the SMN: the SMN are a league of students across the nation that you will work closely with across the year. They host a HoM training day in London which was invaluable to us. You will meet the people who can make or break your experience; these are the people emailing you with tracks and artist opportunities so making a good impression is important. We will pass on your names to Tash and Mark from renegade and we hope you will continue this relationship in your term as head of music.

The playlist survey must be completed every fortnight, we take it in turns. This is a long task of 50 songs to be reviewed each fortnight but it is also one of the main ways you will secure interviews or even artists for events.

Instagram: you are responsible for controlling the instagram which is used for important announcements and updates to teams and transmission etc. but it is also a platform for hyping other shows and even contacting artists or venues

Email: the email is jam packed with artists, pluggers, and other radio professionals sending releases and tracks and also offering opportunities. It is definitely something you can cherry pick in terms of finding and organising important people and threads. You can also use it to request press passes or festival accreditation.
