My name is Britta Carlson and would love the chance to be next years head of Hometime. I am fully aware that I have big shoes to fill (Thank you, Katie), but believe that my love for radio, enthusiasm, and desire to connect with those around me is suitable for the part. I moved to Leeds in September as an intimidated international student, and as someone who tends to be very sure of themselves, I instead felt lost. That is, until I joined LSR. As cliché as it sounds, Leeds Student Radio helped find my voice; and I had the best time doing it. However, even though the University opens it arms for new - and old - students, it continues to be so scary for so many students. That is why I want to utilise the role as head of Hometime to make that extra effort in making everybody feel welcome. I want everybody to know that no matter your experience, course, age or ‘typical’ interest, you will always have a place at LSR. As the head of Hometime, I will not only make sure that you feel safe and secure in your ability to take part of a radio show, but I will commit to being your ally. During my year on Hometime, I have learned an outrageous amount about how to produce a show, tapped into my imagination, and pushed past my comfort zone - but most importantly, I’ve made some of my very best friends; and I want that same for you!

I would like to be the Head of Hometime because I really love LSR. This has been my first full year being a part of LSR and I have loved every moment. I want to do and try so many things if I became Head of Hometime. The main things I would like to accomplish are socials for the Hometime teams and more out of studio opportunities for Hometime presenters. Hometime socials would be a way for Hometime’s teams to get to know each other better and to be more cohesive. The socials would be both sober and drinking so that everyone can be involved and would feel more comfortable working together should a show ever need cover. Finding and creating more opportunities for out of studio work is also something I would like to achieve. I’ve really enjoyed going out on campus and
doing funny interviews for our Hometime shows this past year, and I think it would be great to get more presenters involved in this process. This will give you, the presenters, more of an opportunity to develop both your own unique interviewing technique and editing style for Radio. Additionally, I am going to make use of some of the contacts I have developed with agents over the course of my journalism degree. I want to use these contacts to get some live guests for Hometime shows. This will include finding some interviews that can be pre-recorded for radio for anyone that is interested.
