Hi! I’m Lucy, a second year Biomedical Sciences student. I joined Vertical Fitness this year (as you can tell if you’ve seen me try to invert) and have loved how welcoming and fun the society has been. I am organised, pro-active and reliable, which I believe would make me great at liaising with brands and organising our fundraisers.

After graduation, I would love to work in public health which involves improving the access to health and well-being resources and enabling marginalised groups to take advantage these. Therefore, Basis Yorkshire is a charity that I am proud to support by being in VF. I am passionate about improving the health, safety and well-being of marginalised groups, which Basis Yorkshire achieves by empowering, educating and supporting sex workers and victims of sexual abuse/exploitation. To reduce the prevalence of sexual harassment and abuse in our society, we must first end the stigma around sex work and sexual abuse, which is one of Basis’ main aims.

As Fundraising Rep, there are a few changes I would make to current fundraisers:
- I would love to make our BRING A BOY/BESTIE sessions a more regular event so that everyone has the opportunity to attend one that fits the schedules of them and their guest.
- I will try to increase the awareness of our 24 HOUR POLE-A-THON by advertising it more around campus. I’d also offer more opportunities for those who don’t want to be on the pole, such as combining it with a VF BAKE SALE (sweet treats are a huge industry!!)

I also have a few ideas for new fundraisers:
- I hope to work with our new social sec to organise an (optionally BOOZY) BINGO FOR BASIS night. All money raised from bingo cards would go to charity, while we enjoy a fun new social.
- I aim to organise a sponsored FUN RUN/WALK (which won’t be too long don’t worry) for anyone who would like to be involved in raising some additional money for Basis Yorkshire.

By implementing these ideas into our fundraising efforts throughout the year, I aim to increase the amount of money that we raise as a society and make more of a difference to marginalised groups in our community. As your fundraising rep, I would be more than happy to receive any additional fundraising ideas and try my best to make them happen.
