Hey I’m Zahra, a 2nd year dental student and I’d like to nominate myself to be the treasurer for LDAS. Going into third year I’d like to explore more of the social and societal aspects of university life and go out of my comfort zone. This year, following LDAS’ social media I’ve been able to see the amazing and beneficial events hosted and would love to be apart of that. I personally resonate with how vital the aesthetics aspect of dentistry is and how important it is to get it right. This year I’ve been a rep on the Leeds Muslim dentists society which has given me an insight into all the hard work and effort that goes on behind the scenes and I’d love to bring that into LDAS but I’d also like take on a heavier role this year. Time-management, organisation, team work and decisiveness are just a few of the key skills I hold that are essential for the role of a treasurer. For the past 2 years, alongside this degree, I’ve continued with multiple part time jobs, my social and family life and looked after my mental and physical health, so I’m more than capable of handling this role. I am very reliable, trustworthy and honest and I would ensure the funds are kept safe and being used in the best way possible. With my time management skills I would also ensure necessary forms are submitted on time and ensure theres s clear record of everything.

I’m Hafsa Syed and I am writing to express my interest in the role of treasurer for LDAS. I am a second-year dental surgery student. I understand the responsibilities involved and I strongly believe I am well suited for taking on the role with my previous experiences.

I have been sponsorship officer for Dentsoc this year and in recent elections, I have been elected as BDA rep for Dentsoc for the upcoming year. My experience and active involvement with Dentsoc alongside my very recent experience being deputy organiser for the Leeds BDSA Sports Day has provided me with invaluable experiences.

My role as deputy organiser involved a wide range of duties including:

- budgeting for a large scale event where over 520 students attended from all dental universities
- co-managing funds/ the overall budget to ensure we didn’t overspend in one area
- keeping track of all of the transactions involved for the 2 day event
- working closely with the treasurer of the Sports Day Committee to submit/ organise payments
- co-designing the logo used for @bdsa.leeds
- making payments for several components of the sports day including the merchandise
- I am adept at handling LUU’s website for submitting expenses and handling/ requesting invoices and proformas

Further, I have co-organised 2 trade fairs this year, one for Dentsoc and one for BDSA Sports Day and I have formed relationships with many companies. In particular, I have worked very closely with MyDentist all year. I hope to bring these connections with me to LDAS.

I have also been a part of the pilot year launch of the BDA Future Leaders Programme for which I attended an in person training day this year. This programme has provided me with countless skills and techniques whilst enhancing my confidence and empowering me to share my thoughts and create awareness for things I am passionate about.

Through these experiences, I have had the opportunity and time to significantly improve my time management skills to ensure that I am giving my full effort to all of my commitments.

The skills I have developed from these roles, alongside my outgoing nature, have allowed me to to improve the outreach, organisation, and attendance of the events I have been involved with.

I am passionate about working closely alongside and supporting my fellow committee members in their roles.

I am eager to enhance my own dental aesthetic skills, whilst using the network I have built this year to encourage and promote other students to enhance their’s too!
