Hi, I'm Millie and I would love to be your Bar Careers Sec! I am an aspiring commercial barrister wanting to help increase accessibility for this extremely competitive career. I believe my passion for this career alongside my experience of Mini Pupillages and Inns of Court visits place me in good stead to fulfil this role. Having received BPP's careers development certificate, I am keen to use my position as bar careers sec to continue to provide an array of informative events on campus. Hi everyone, I am Ishika Verma, a second-year law student, and I am running for the Bar Careers Secretary role. I believe in actively representing women of ethnic minorities and improving their access to a career at the bar. I aim to do this by empowering them to overcome any barriers they may face on their journey.
I hope to encourage those who are considering a career in this sector, by providing them with guidance for applications, mentoring schemes and a variety of networking opportunities with barristers and pupil barristers who will provide insight into a career at the bar.
I believe that everyone should have an equal opportunity to be successful in their journey to the bar, and I’m passionate about improving this access to the bar for those who may need it.

Hi there! I'm Neha, a first year law student in the LLB (graduate) programme from India. I'm an aspiring barrister and have been working towards a career at the Bar ever since I began my first undergraduate degree! Through attending various careers events, taking part in mooting competitions, undertaking minipupillage and marshalling experiences, I have developed a good understanding of the various aspects of becoming a barrister.
Through the role of Bar Careers Secretary, I would like to work with the LawSoc, BarSoc and WBB Leeds to create a network of aspiring barristers from different backgrounds. Through this network, I hope to share opportunities, organise events and trips that will be a great addition to your legal CV and assist your goal to become a barrister.
From personal experience, I am aware of the challenges one may face, ranging from being part of an underrepresented group to feeling helpless due to a lack of connections to the Bar. I will ensure that the events/activities cater to all members, ranging from those who are still exploring the barrister pathway to those who have already begun their journey.
Having been part of numerous mentoring schemes with peers and barristers as my mentors, I recognise the need for more such opportunities to improve representation and diversity at the Bar.
As you may see in my manifesto, I have lots of ideas to improve accessibility and provide more opportunities for all aspiring barristers at Leeds! Thank you for taking the time to read my statement and manifesto!
