Hello! I am Cordelia, running for Media and Publicity Secretary.
Here is what I promise to do if I am elected:
• To make it easier for different social media users, I will ensure that all LawSoc members are aware of the events available by using email, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp announcements.
• For big events, printed posters in common law lecture areas (e.g. the conference auditorium, and Esther Simpson building).
• With all the exciting activities going on it can be quite overwhelming... People use societies for different reasons, so to help signpost you in the direction of events you would actually like to attend, in my advertising there will be different icons for different types of events (PARTY, ENTERTAINMENT, LOW-KEY/CHILL, MORE LAW, TRAVEL, SPORTS).
• So why me? I have previous experience with organising promotion for events (President of JCR in Devonshire Halls), which involved creating posters, working with FIXR tickets, and using social media. I am a perfectionist when it comes to work, so I will reliably deliver!

Hi everyone!

My name is Omaima Akhtar. I am a first-year student in the three-year LLB Programme. I am thrilled to be running for the position of Media and Publicity secretary for the law society for the year 2023/24. A little bit about me: I am originally from New Delhi, India. I was born and raised there and have completed my high school in Delhi before coming to Leeds to study Law at an undergraduate level. I remember being a new first year student in a different country among all kinds of people from all around the world, sitting in the conference auditorium for my induction week, listening to the co-presidents of the law society and thinking to myself how I want to be a part of the team. I am aware being part of the society and holding a position in it is a lot of responsibility and I truly believe that I can live up to the expectations of the members and of you all, the students, and make the law society an even great organisation and provide you all with an amazing experience for the 2023/24 school year. So why should you vote for me?
First of all, I truly believe I am suitable for the role as I have plethora of experience in advertising, designing, organising and photography. During my school time, I was the head of the photography club and also organised plenty of events such as: Mooting competitions for the law society, Quizzes for the computer club and etc. Additionally, I was a member of the legal literacy club, the law society of my school, along with twelve other societies for whom I covered as a photographer and organised multiple events for. Furthermore, I was a part of international media in the model United Nations competitions held by my school and other schools for three years. When covid hit, an immediate lockdown was placed in India. During those times, I virtually worked with multiple non-profit organisations to raise funds and to advertise the organisations on social media, which I successfully did. Moreover, I did internships with two hospitals in New Delhi for whom I did social media campaigning for and designed posters for mental health awareness month. For a while, I also wrote articles for my school magazine and even published my photography in the model United Nations journal for my school. The above experience will help me with my role as a media and publicity secretary and I will be able to provide the committee with great results with my work. Secondly, I have ideas to create and promote diversity, inclusivity, and the core values of the law society to increase membership and support which I believe I can bring through my role as a media and publicity secretary such as maximising participation and engagement in the law society of both law and non-law students. I will act as one of the principal contacts for all the law school students and members in case they want to enquire about media opportunities within the law society and I’ll ensure that the interested individuals feel supported and informed. I also have ideas to promote more media and publicity work among students through initiatives such aa photography competitions, law article writings, and even collaboration with other societies for the promotion of law society’s ideals and work through various social media platforms. Lastly, if elected for the position, I will make sure I serve my time, giving my all to the law society and helping my committee members whenever necessary using my above-mentioned experience and more. Hey! I'm Rachel, and I'm a first-year law student running for Media and Publicity Sec. One of my main reasons for choosing the University of Leeds was because of its Law Society. Most of the information I gathered was from its Instagram Page. I'd been following the society long before I was enrolled. I think it comes full circle for me to be applying for this position. I know with my experience, drive, and passion, I can work to my full potential and provide my best work. I've explained my main objectives in detail above: accessibility, outreach, and consistency. I will work towards these objectives and any other ones that come up along the way with all my effort. Two initiatives I'd like to bring up are a TikTok page for the LawSoc and introducing occasional commercial awareness checks (and something similar for non-commercial routes).
