My intention to represent the interests of non-law students, aligning them with my diligent efforts and confidence in my capabilities makes me the ideal candidate to become the non-law rep for the Lawsoc Committee 2023-24.

My intention to become a non-law rep is bolstered by my motivation to pursue psychology at university, for which I applied to universities across the world. During this process I realized my soft spot for law and that is when I started looking for alternative ways to pursue a legal career. I wanted to study psychology but was motivated to become a solicitor. It was only after considering all factors including the challenges faced by international students that I decided on studying law at Leeds. I became well-informed that law firms welcomed individuals studying other disciplines through attending open days (virtual and in-person), gaining experience in making applications to law firms and attending the insightful events hosted by the law society and talking to trainee solicitors and partners from various law firms. By becoming the non-law rep, I hope to make the journey a bit easier for other students who are travelling the same path as me, by better informing them while increasing the scope of the society.

Alignment of my intention with my efforts involves:

1. Organising engaging and comprehensive events liaised in cooperation with law firms and the law society focused on opportunities for the students but a firm emphasis of which would be to:
- Understand a legal profession as a part of a bigger picture.
- Explore non-traditional ways to pursue a legal career.

- Understanding how law is linked with different disciplines ranging from sciences to languages and history.
- Exploring skills, one should build to achieve success in the legal field.
- Informing about events hosted by leading legal news and other legally insightful websites.
- Hosting discussion sessions to provide personalised feedback.

- Innovate and suggest ideas with an aim to promote inclusivity and accessibility among non-law students as potential and official members of the society. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~4. Making use of the most effective tools to attract non-law students:
- Publicising strategically not only online but also through physical means not limited to the law building or the law students.

- Intended to help non-law students get acquainted with the resources used by law students to carry out legal research and construct an understanding of the legal world and build communication and negotiation skills. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Finally, my confidence is founded on my past experiences driven by my purpose to be representative of interests of non-law students to drive the community of law and non-law students forward.

I am a second year student studying Politics with Quantitative Research methods with the view to enter into a career in law.

As a member of the Law society since I joined Leeds, people have often been confused upon realisation that I am a non-law student yet I am still able to attend and benefit from Law Society events. This is why I suggested the idea of having a non-law representative to current co-president Kat to ensure that those who are studying non-law degrees at university feel welcome to get involved and learn from the various opportunities that Leeds Law Society can offer.

As Non-Law Representative, I will strive to create a welcoming environment within the Law Society for students from all subject backgrounds, as well as ensuring that there are events and opportunities in place which will benefit those entering into a career in law from a non-law background such as opportunities to hear from solicitors that have taken the non-law route. As well as this, I aim to provide opportunities that will benefit Non-Law students when applying to firms or chambers, ensuring that students have the knowledge that is necessary for a non-law student whilst filling out applications or attending interviews.

My motivation for being elected to this role is also bolstered by the development of my own website named The Non Law Lawyer which strives to provide non-law students with the guidance that is often overlooked when applying to legal roles. This provides that I already have significant knowledge and experience in reaching out to other non-law students and helping provide them with support.
