Hi guys, my name is Alicia and I am running to be your social secretary for the next academic year! I have some great ideas for new socials which I think could be amazing for the law society! I think it would be great to do new socials like a multi law society social and more themed socials as well! I do law soc netball as well which I feel will be invaluable for creating more and better socials for our sports teams and do more joint ones!

Hi everyone, I’m Maya Banerjee and I am currently in first year running for the position of Social Secretary this year! I’m suited for this role as I am an extremely sociable and outgoing person and am passionate about bringing people together to make new friends and explore new experiences, both of which I believe are some of the main things people look forward to at university. Those of you who already know me know I love a good night out (I think I’ve only missed one law social this year!) I also believe I would be suited for this role as I am an approachable student who is easy to talk to as I am friendly and relatable. I always make an effort to talk to people and ensure everyone is included. I have thoroughly enjoyed the law socials this year and would love the opportunity to take on the role of planning them next year. I have found that especially as with law we don’t have as many contact hours as other courses, the socials have been a great way to make new friends and meet people you perhaps wouldn’t have the chance to in seminars or lectures. Of course, we all know the academic side of university is important, but the social side is just as important in shaping a positive experience where people feel truly comfortable and supported. Additionally, I was head girl at my sixth form which provided me with invaluable experience working collaboratively with teams to plan events such as our end of year formal, open evening, induction days and numerous assemblies, all of which were a great success. I will plan events catering for both drinkers and non-drinkers alongside a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities so there will truly be something for everyone. As well as my own ideas I will prioritise listening to what members of law soc want to see from their socials in the upcoming year. I have definitely found the committee this year super welcoming so I hope to continue this and ensure that everyone who is a part of the society feels welcome and has numerous opportunities to meet and mix with new people throughout the year. Overall, I would bring a positive impact on all those involved in the law society with my friendly attitude and desire for everyone to have the best possible experience and enjoy their time at Leeds!
