After watching my friends do such a good job in their respective committee roles this year, and drastically improve the station as a whole, I would love the opportunity to do the same with the music team. Being part of this society has been an incredible experience, and I hope to improve upon everything Maddi and Mara have achieved this year. I hope to encourage members to come to me with any idea, no matter how wild, and help them to achieve it.

WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE ME FOR HEAD OF MUSIC!!!!! :)
Through my time as a first-year student at LSR, my appreciation for music has grown continuously. Playlist Team, Album Review, Snog Marry Avoid, Hometime and my own show Curtain Call, have all helped me to share, explore and value music in a new way.
I am already in contact with local artists, including JWestern, a young solo artist who lives in Leeds, and I will be interviewing him after his show at Oporto in May. This is just the beginning of the music journalism that I hope to achieve at LSR and in my career in radio production after I graduate.
I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people, which LSR has allowed me to do, and given the opportunity to be Head of Music, one of the things I would greatly look forward to is building relationships with other societies as well as my fellow LSR members. Meeting with the other Music representatives at the Gryphon or at LSTV, for example, would allow for amazing collaborative opportunities whether it is for interviewing musicians, working together on shows and articles or even for friendly socials!
Speaking of socials, I would love to organise them. Namely, karaoke nights at Hyde Park pub or Dry Dock, Sunday Jazz Sessions at Headrow House and open mic sessions to showcase the talented, creative individuals who are a part of LSR. And of course, at least one Otley Run is mandatory for me!
Any one of you who know me will know that I am fun, friendly, up for a laugh, and always ready to share new music to the world, and for those of you who don’t know me well yet, I hope I can showcase all these things to you as your new Head of Music!

I’m Ella, and I’m running for Head of Music at LSR!

My CV
- I interviewed Lucy Dacus for the Student Music Network podcast, and as I’m writing this am preparing to interview CRAWLERS and George O’Hanlon. I’m also an active member of the SMN.

- I’ve been on the Indie and Alternative LSR show for two terms, hip hop for one, and a member of the playlist team for my whole year at Leeds. This term I also had my own show – about the intersection between food and music (not NSB4B – the other one).

- Outside of music I’ve also been on a number of other LSR shows, such as Screen Time, (in which I found out my actual screen time is way too high), and the Comic Relief broadcast.

Why would I be a good Head of Music?

- I’m very organised – anyone who knows me knows I love my Google calendar (lol) so I’d be good with playlist team meetings, Transmission, etc.

- I really love music, of all different genres, and am really excited to learn more about up-and-coming bands.

- I like to think I’m quite friendly and sociable, and love a night out – so I’d love to be an approachable face!

- I’m passionate especially about making music more of a level playing field, and I would love to do that with LSR.

What would I do/change?
(Before I embark on this one I think Maddi and Mara have done a banging job this year – these are just tiny things I’d bring in)

- Yearly Diversity in Music report and focus group to help us find the best ways of promoting artists from marginalised backgrounds – and share the results with Head of Music at LSTV. We have a super important role in levelling the playing field.

- Keep interview training but offer notes/powerpoints as well (it’s a relief to have a resource to draw on when you’re researching interviews on your own!). Also offer (very) general guidance on how to structure shows just for freshers who have never done it before.

- Keep Maddi’s music team socials as a tradition in the same way that Breakfast/Hometime socials are. More chill socials/non drinking etc as well as nights out (like the Book Club social).

- I’d love to offer more access to careers workshops and networking etc for people going into the music industry, either as musicians, producers or presenters.

I'm a long-time lover of music (all kinds really just minus heavy metal it's a tad angry for me - sorry to any lovers out there) Simply putting myself up for Head of Music to help make everyones time at LSR as musically entangled as they want to make it, and to have access to as many musical opportunities as possible!
Here in Leeds we have the most gorgeously vibrant music scene and a whole host of venues to explore - given the platform of LSR I'd like to make it my endeavour to make sure the whole music team takes full advantage of free gig opportunities, interviews and enjoy some exciting and diverse socials that you might not have otherwise known about . In essence, I'd love to help give everyone on the music teams a platform and the confidence to get involved anywhere they'd like to both on the station and beyond in the industry!

Hi! My name is Callum Oliveira and I would love to be your head of music. I have been part of LSR since the start of this academic year and my involvement in the society has only grown since then.

In my first semester, I hosted my own show focusing on 70s/80s rock music and won an award for the name- ‘Your Dad Would Love This Show’. Since then, I have launched myself into multiple shows and made lots of friends at LSR.

Currently, I am enrolled on six different music shows including Live and Local, Rock and Punk, my own show and Saturday Brunch. This clearly reflects a diverse set of shows which I hope to continue hosting in my second year at LSR.

As Head of Music, I would utilise the LSR Spotify to help create a diverse set of playlists that would be played on an array of LSR core music shows. To further increase the diversity of music played on LSR, I would also introduce a heavy metal core show as this is a genre that I love. Furthermore, I believe that effective publicity of music socials through the main Facebook group is key to improving the friendliness of the society as a whole.

Therefore, vote for me as head of music for increasing diversity of music and promoting more socials to improve the society as a whole.
