Manifesto for Sponsorship Secretary – Chloë Wilson
Proposed by Rose Shipley
Seconded by Lizzy Choong
🎤 If I could write you a song to make you, fall in loveee (with the idea of me as sponsorship sec) I would already have you up under my armsss🎤
But I have to write a manifesto instead so I’ll try my hardest :)
Helloooo lovely ladies of LUUWRUFC, it's the loud fresher here with (debatably) ginger hair (petition to change 'ginger' to 'Madagascan sunset').
Before fresher’s week had even started, I was pestering Ellie to go to a LUUWRUFC training and after spending a solid half hour navigating my way through the treacherous fields that is Boddington, I was met with the most amazing group of girls I am now so proud to say I play alongside with. My passion and love for this club is something I've never felt before in any clubs I’ve played for and is also something I'm going to remember for the rest of my life.
*okay okay Chloë we get the picture*
I think I'd make a great sponsorship sec because even before I could apply for the committee, I was always looking at aspects of this brilliant club that I felt I could improve or help with. Whether that be a new set of balls (no, not that kind you filthy child), a veo camera so we can record and watch back our matches, tickets to go and watch the pros or general funding to take this club to the next level!
I think as many of you know, I could have an hour-long conversation with a brick wall so as well as communication skills I feel I also have the confidence that this role requires. I currently work as a forensic accountant (NOT as fancy as it sounds - trust me), but within this job I am constantly communicating with business owners, building relationships with them, and attending their company events where I meet other businesspeople alike (which I fully intend to use to my advantage when looking for new companies to approach for sponsorship). From my experience in this job, getting anything from companies and business professionals, whether it be sponsorship or something else, requires building somewhat of a relationship and a level of trust between each other, after all, we’re asking for money and the provider of this needs to entrust in us that we will use it in both LUUWRUFC’s and the companies’ best interests. This job also requires me to send A LOT of emails, so professional communication is a skill I’ve come to master and will use to my highest advantage when conversing with possible sponsors. I feel the knowledge I have gained from my job will help me excel in this area and help us gain as much funding for our club as possible! Speaking of excel, I’m very proud to admit I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to organisation and spreadsheets, I can efficiently work with short deadlines and am not afraid to step out of my comfort zone when it comes to tasks I may be less experienced in, I’m not afraid to ask silly questions or for help so you can always entrust that every job will be handled the way the club as a whole sees fit. I’m also not expecting to jump into this role blind, I will ensure to learn from as many former sponsorship secretaries the key elements to successfully carrying out the role and gaining as much knowledge as I can from previous years, to guarantee a smooth transition from one team to another without any plans or prospect sponsors falling through the cracks.
I am an extremely creative person, so coming up with exciting new ideas of how we can raise money for the club is something I can’t wait to get started on. I think when people think of charity or fund raising, they picture themselves on the verge of cardiac arrest running round Hyde park for the 126th time or standing outside the union with a bucket just for us Gen Z’s to say ‘sorry I don’t have any cash’. I’ve taken part in many charity events before, from triathlons to Tough Mudder and more charity gigs than I can remember. If I were to be chosen as sponsorship sec the law would be the limit of the ways we could fundraise for both charities and the club and each and every idea will be more fun than watching the new social secs terror the freshies.
I have an extensive list of ideas for sponsorship for the Teams. As well as general funding which will be my top priority to make sure that the club is set up financially for the year, I’m so excited for all the extras I will try to the absolute best of my abilities to get for us, these include: A new set of LUUWRUFC balls, more club merch (free or subsidised) such as hats (oddballz ones are my personal fav), water bottles! Green and white gumshields (sorry but how cute if we all had matching ones 🥺), days out to professional matches (not only will this help us improve our game play but also a chance to have a fun rugby day out), a veo camera to watch back our game play and gain a further understanding of how each team can improve to smash their league, and a fundraiser for 6nations tickets – this will be like a raffle with a set amount of tickets (whether it be two or three etc.) and everyone will buy a ticket to cover the cost of them and names will be drawn from a raffle, the remaining money will either be put back into the club or donated to a charity of our choice.
I have so many more ideas that I cannot wait to share with all of you but for the sake of word count I will keep to myself for now ;). This club has become like a second family to me, and it would be the biggest honour to play a role in furthering its excellence and giving back for everything it’s given to me already in the space of less than a year.

Hope Sommers
Proposed by: Olivia Lambe.
Seconded by: Pippa Gammer.
Hi, I’m Hope and I’m currently a first year economics student. As part of my first year I’ve absolutely loved being part of the team and think it’s such a great community. Going into second year, I want to be able to give something back and would love to have the opportunity to raise the money that the club needs. Not only do I want to get us the best sponsorship deals, but I want to make the sponsors feel lucky to partner with us. We have won both the leagues after all! Additionally, I think the charity side of the role is really important and I would enjoy helping the club work with different charities for a good cause.
I already have experience which I could bring to the role. In sixth form I did young enterprise where we created a business. As part of this I worked with a local business, agreeing on sponsorship in order to get discounted products. I also repeatedly took the time out to contact other businesses to try and benefit my team. This demonstrates that I have good communication and the continuous dedication to keep reaching out to sponsors, which would help me be a great sponsorship sec for the club. Further, I understand the role is not a singular task but consists of working in a team. Playing both rugby and doubles badminton since I was young, it has been necessary for me to develop good teamwork and communication with others. As a result, I would be able to work well with the other sponsorship sec and media sec to raise money for the club and charity in the most effective way.
My plans!
If you voted for me I have so many plans I’d love to be able to do. Firstly, I would be committed to maintaining the sponsorship relations we already have. But, in addition to this, I’ve researched and asked around and found a fundraising company where we can raise money for the club simply by shopping online. I would also be up for organising a pub quiz where the event could be sponsored in order to raise money for us all.
As for the charity side I’d love to make it fun. For example, I think taking part in a muddy run could be great. We get muddy on the rugby pitch we may as well do it off the pitch for charity. I also think having a food bank collection could be an impactful but easy way to help people. In terms of who we raise money for, personally mental health has affected my life a lot so I would be interested in raising money for Mind. However, I would also want to do a survey to find out what charities are most important to the club so we can raise money for causes that mean the most to people.
Thank you for reading this and I hope that after hearing why I think I’d be good for the role and some of my plans that you’ll want me as your sponsorship sec. I would love to be able to smash the role for you all!
