I would like to continue in the role of LPRASS Education and Skills Coordinator, having thoroughly enjoyed the position over the past year. During this time, I have successfully organised and delivered a range of practical workshops, which received very positive feedback from attendees and helped increase engagement within the society.

I have a strong interest in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, particularly the blend of technical skill, creativity and problem-solving involved within the specialty. Through my background in maxillofacial surgery and surgical teaching, I have developed both practical surgical skills and experience delivering accessible, engaging teaching sessions for students of different experience levels.

Over the past year, I have worked to ensure workshops were well-organised, interactive and valuable for attendees, while also collaborating with clinicians and society members to expand opportunities available to students. I would love the opportunity to build on this further by continuing to develop high-quality skills sessions, introducing new workshop ideas, and helping students gain confidence in practical surgical techniques in a supportive environment.

I believe my previous experience in the role, enthusiasm for surgical education, and commitment to maintaining engaging and inclusive teaching opportunities make me well suited to continue as Education and Skills Coordinator for LPRASS.

Hi, my name is Melisa, I'm about to enter third year and I'm excited to be putting myself forward as your Skills and Education Coordinator for LPRASS.

I love plastics because it combines technical precision with genuine creativity, working at a surface and tissue level to achieve outcomes that can be truly transformative for patients. I admire the dexterity and thoughtfulness the specialty demands, and I want to share that enthusiasm with others.

My interest in plastics extends well beyond the curriculum. I recently attended a BAPRAS Trauma SIAG conference day, where I had the opportunity to connect with plastic surgeons from across the country, including teams from Leeds and Manchester. I am committed to continuing to engage with the wider plastics community and building meaningful connections that could benefit our society. In university, I attended the LPRASS x Cutting Edge advanced suturing and flap workshop, where I had the chance to speak with Mr Ismail and other LPRASS members. The session struck me as exactly what a great skills event should be: hands on, educational, and with a friendly atmosphere that made it accessible to everyone.

When it comes to planning and delivering teaching, I have real experience to draw from. Through PALS I have taught anatomy to first year students preparing for exams. Before university I spent a year as a tutor at Explore Learning alongside my A-levels. These experiences gave me a strong appreciation of the organisation, effort, and communication required to deliver teaching that is actually high quality. I bring the same approach to everything I do, I consider myself highly organised and a strong team player, which was recognised when I was awarded the Max Hamilton Prize for the best group project on long-term health conditions.

As Skills and Education Coordinator, my goal would be to make sessions fun, collaborative, and hands on. I would love to continue delivering advanced suturing and flap workshops using skin substitutes such as pork or chicken, explore burns management with teaching on debridement and grafting, and collaborate with other surgical societies such as OrthoSoc to deliver sessions on major limb trauma as a branch of plastics. Ultimately, I want every member to leave a LPRASS session having learned something new and having enjoyed the process.

Hello everyone, my names Jack and I’m running for the Skills and Education Coordinator role.
I’ve enjoyed nothing more than getting scrubbed in to surgery over the past 2 years, with the majority being in plastics thanks to my mentor and have developed a real passion for the speciality. I’m eager to bring my enthusiasm for plastics to the society, along with the surgical skills I’ve been developing.

I think plastics as a whole teaches the fundamentals of surgery really well, from anastomosing tiny vessels, designing flaps and even fixing hand fractures. If elected, I hope to bring students workshops covering some of the core skills in plastics, which they will be able to carry with them in any specialty. Thanks and I hope you consider voting for me!
