Hi everyone, my name is Tan. I’m a third-year medical student and currently intercalating in an MRes at the University of Leeds.

I have previous experience working as treasurer for multiple societies, which has given me a good understanding of budgeting, organisation and making sure society funds are used properly. I’d like to bring that experience to LPRASS and help the society run smoothly behind the scenes.

I’m also an EXSEL Research Scholar at Leeds and through this I have had the opportunity to work closely with academic surgeons and develop links within surgery and research. My current research is also closely related to plastic and reconstructive surgery, particularly around soft-tissue reconstruction following complex bone infection. This has strengthened my interest in the specialty and given me a greater appreciation of the role plastics plays in trauma, infection, limb reconstruction and multidisciplinary care.

A lot of strong society events depend on good planning and sensible finances, whether that’s teaching sessions, suturing workshops, careers talks, practical skills sessions or collaborative events with other societies. I would aim to keep the finances clear and organised, while also supporting sponsorship and funding opportunities so the society can continue to offer useful, affordable events for students.
