Hi, I’m Becky, a graduate and 1st year medical student. I have an interest in pursuing a career in academic plastic surgery, in particular, burns and reconstruction.
My previous committee experience at both a regional and national level will put me in a good position to take on this role. As Pre-Clinical rep, I will support the Education Officer to engage in opportunities for all members of LUPRASS. Topics I would like to focus on would be anatomy teaching, theatre experience, mentorship, research, portfolio building and promoting diversity in surgery.
Since becoming a medical student at Leeds, I have reached out to plastic surgeons in the region for shadowing opportunities and ways in which to build a strong portfolio aimed at a career in plastic surgery. As plastics is one of the most competitive specialities to gain a training number, preparation at an early stage can only be of benefit to those interested in a career in this field. I would like to use the contacts I have made to create opportunities for other students with this interest.
