Hey guys :) My name is Kajitha, currently a first-year medical student and an Eelam Tamil. I'm taking this opportunity to apply for being the Welfare and Charity Secretary as it has been amazing to take part in all the exciting events held by Tamil society throughout the year however I would love to contribute more as a committee member. My passion for helping the Tamil community was uprooted by my ongoing engagement in the Liverpool Tamil school and events they host by doing speeches and programs thus boosting my communication ability in Tamil . Volunteering in a charity and a hospital for more than 5 years now has given me a strong passion for helping others and good listening skills that would assist me as a Welfare and Charity Secretary. I have networked this year and have links to other Tamil societies and societies within Leeds and as your Welfare and Charity Secretary I would love to coordinate collaborations and expand our Tamil society to create enjoyable events for our members. And also I believe strengthening partnerships would help our society run EVEN MORE successfully as our fellow tamils unite as one. This upcoming year I have many ideas on events such as traditional balls, movie nights, clubbing events and even more to give our members valuable experiences to treasure as part of the university journey. It would be a dream to take part in a society that embraces our Tamil culture alongside others just as passionate as me. I am eager to work with other committee members in corroborating ideas to organise events to support local charities and also put my empathetic skills to use and be a backbone for our society members with any personal/academic issues they are facing too. I believe I would be best suited for this position with the skills I have attained through years of working in the community and I hope I have convinced you too! My name is Saran, currently a first-year radiography student, raised in the UK but Chennai ponnu at heart :)

Being a dedicated member of the society this year has offered me the opportunity to meet a range of people with different backgrounds, some of whom I now consider to be good friends of mine. This upcoming year, I am excited to run for Welfare and Charity Secretary and be responsible for giving everyone an experience that is at least as good as mine!

As Welfare Secretary, I plan to collaborate with other committee members to organise a variety of events and activities that bring together fellow Tamizhans and people interested in our cultural heritage. Activities may include chill movie nights, cultural events, clubbing nights and charity fundraising, but as a committee member, I would be open to hearing different activity suggestions from society members. I look forward to assisting the President in planning such future events, as well as providing my support to other committee members whenever they need.

Finally, I believe that it is crucial for our society to be an active participant in a broader Tamil community. I would like to build stronger relationships with other Tamil societies, working together to create events that could bring us all together!

Overall, I am passionate towards becoming a Welfare Secretary of a strong and vibrant society, to continue embracing our Tamil cultures, fostering an inclusive environment and finding people we can relate and have fun with!
