Hey, I’m Eddie and I’m running to become Treasurer for Salsa Society.

My love of salsa started in Cuba where I was caught being unable to dance and promptly embraced by the locals who taught me the basics of salsa. When I came to Leeds and found the salsa society, I thought I would explore the world of salsa further and meet some cool people on the way. I very quickly fell further in love with the dance and found myself coming to all three classes and all the socials.

I’m going into my third year as a mechanical engineer and over the past two years I’ve made hundreds of excel spreadsheets both for projects and for fun.

This isn’t my first time in this role as I was the treasurer of one of the largest societies in my sixth form, being in charge of hiring guest speakers and organising the end of year ball. In this time I learned how to budget and organise expenses so I understand the responsibilities I will have to undertake.

I enjoyed my first year as a part of the society and want to be able to give the same welcoming experience I had to others.

My love for salsa started a couple of years ago when I was travelling across south America and I never could have imagined that this is where I'd end up! The salsa society has been the most fun outlet I could have imagined whether it's the classes, the social dancing or the events.

It goes without saying that above all, it is the family environment of our beautiful salsa society that has inspired me to join the committee. I want to contribute to our welcoming and vibrant community the same way this year's committee has and continue to work to make it an even better space.

Money can't buy happiness... but it can fund our salsa socials 😉 I believe that as treasurer I can ensure that everyone regardless of budget can grow their passion for salsa because everyone deserves to dance.

As a language student, I believe Maths and numbers are a language of their own – understood from every corner of the world which reflects our multi-cultural society. Finance isn't everyone’s cup of tea but it's certainly mine and as a reliable and organised person I will ensure that our money is safe.
