If I was elected I would focus on increasing the number of events LSR has (ie socials and mixers for different stations to get to know each other) as well as ensuring that everyone feels welcome. This would involve having a variety of different events, for example, events that do not include alcohol.

I would also like to do many different special broadcasts with different shows, including continuing our streak of successful varsities and Transmissions!

I have lots of experience in putting on events, this year I was the event manager for the Union Music Library and I also have my gig promotion Let Leeds Shake. For these music events, I have also had a focus on promoting female, trans and non-binary artists.

I would love to use my experience to put on some amazing events for the lovely LSR!

Hi! I’m Lauren, a first year student studying Global Creative Industries. I’m in a team of wonderful women presenting ‘Safe Space’ and have done since the start of the year. Joining LSR was the best decision for me because it built my confidence and has inspired me to gain skills beyond presenting. Talking all things mental health on Safe Space has felt like I’m creating something that people can not only enjoy, but take important information away from and feel less alone at University. It’s been great seeing the feedback we’ve had about how we’ve helped people “find their tribe” at University. The enthusiasm I have for supporting others makes me a great candidate to be head of events and special broadcasts, when the key foundation for a successful event is having strong values and objectives. I recently joined the hometime pre-production team which has thrown me into the special broadcasting side of LSR. I chose my course because it has a large focus on event management which is what I aspire for my career. Combined with my love of radio, I can bring a new level of enthusiasm and skill set in event organisation and assistance. I find myself being the creative mind on radio, usually the one to put forward the topic for each week and setting out the order of conversation. Organisational ability is essential to running an event from start to finish. I have some ideas for the future of LSR events to encourage everyone to take an interest in radio, such as a charity showcase, career fairs and collaborative projects. I would love to build a sense of community in Leeds through the power of young voices in real time!
