I’m Lana, and I would absolutely love to be Head of Daytime for LSR next year. Radio, to me, is far more than a medium- it’s a passion that has grown immensely during my time with LSR this year. The experience has not only deepened my love for radio, but has also gifted me with lifelong friends, unforgettable memories, and invaluable skills that I will carry throughout my University journey. Given the opportunity, I am confident that I can make a significant impact on Daytime radio at LSR, and it would be an absolute honour to step into this role and contribute to the huge success that is Leeds Student Radio.

Hello everyone!

I'm Lili, a first-year Media and Communications student, and I'm thrilled to be running for Head of Daytime at LSR. My journey with LSR has been nothing short of inspiring. From discovering the magic of radio to realizing my passion for it, I'm now determined to contribute to our station's excellence and help it flourish further.

At LSR, you'll often find me immersed in any extra events I can get my hands on, be it artist interviews or transmission, I am there! I believe the future of 'Daytime' should focus on capturing the essence of student life through Instagram reels and street interviews (see @thehoot for reference), giving our daytime programming a fresh, youthful vibe. Imagine a 'Daytime' that could also reflect student life in Leeds!

I also want to make 'Daytime' more of a team and want to create lots of opportunities for us to bond (such as socials- both sober and non-sober) and have a team feel as well as insightful talks with industry figures, enriching our experiences as our members helping with networking opportunities.

My experience speaks volumes. From hosting Safe Space to producing my podcast "Flutterby," focusing on mental health and beyond, I've honed my communication skills and fostered inclusive environments. I've even won a special recognition award for my contributions at the LSR Winter Awards!

What sets me apart is my unwavering love for LSR and radio. I'm dedicated to team building and creating memorable experiences. With a keen ear for engaging content, drawn from my love for daytime radio, I'm poised to introduce a kind, welcoming and entertaining theme throughout our shows.

So, why me? Because I live and breathe radio. I envision a vibrant future for LSR's daytime programming, and I'm committed to making it a reality. Let's embark on this journey together! I want daytime to reflect you and be a place for everyone.

I only started the radio this year. I’d never considered it before, but being at LSR has made me realise a new passion and has potentially impacted my career path as I have enjoyed my time here so much. To be on the committee would be such an amazing opportunity for me. Although I’ve not worked on a Daytime show, it was because I didn’t know where I’d fit in to begin with. However, as I’ve gotten used to being on the radio I know it’s something I would enjoy so very much and being on the committee would be invaluable for me - both presently and in the future. Thank you for this opportunity!

Politics Hour has shown me what LSR daytime is about - I understand the amount of work and preparation that goes into shows - I want to be involved and know about your ideas. I LOVE THE LIB SERIES: As well as being politically engaged, I ran my school’s feminist society. I made podcasts for my school during pride month and was part of a long-term campaign to end sexism. Having also been a committee member for LUUNC this year, I understand the dedication that is required on committee. I am a School Rep for PRHS - I LOVE hearing what people have to say about improving their university experience; I want to hear what YOU want to do with daytime - we are Leeds STUDENT Radio afterall...
I listen to A LOT of radio hence my radio routine. I want to be a bigger part of creating something that means so much to my day to day life.
Doing Politics Hour has actually changed my life with my gold buzzer demo. I want to make sure that as daytime presenters we are tapping into people’s niches and making the most of our opportunities on student radio (hence idea number 2). Personally the most exciting things I have done include organising external interviews with Susan Smith from For Women Scotland and (fingers crossed) Andy Burnham Mayor of Greater Manchester that will be aired in the coming months.

1 GENUINE COLLABORATION ACROSS SHOWS
The Lib Series has so many crossovers - the personal is political! Communication across shows to expand our networks for external interviews etc - it’s who you know not what you know a lot of the time - reg catch ups, share what worked or didn’t, tips for the desk etc. Active group chats and irl discussions.
2 ENHANCE OUR SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE/ENGAGEMENT
YOU’VE ALL GOT FACES FOR RADIO- I want your personalities/content on the daytime socials to leave listeners wanting more - encourage LIVE STREAMING & CLIPS to get more engagement. By staying on top of our ‘best bits’, creating demos in the future will be easier...
3 EMBRACE THE FREEDOM OF LSR
My main take away from SRA CON was that it’s the freedom that makes LSR so good. As much as I want to oversee everything and help as much as I can, the presenters drive the show; I want to encourage any and all ideas you have and help you make them happen.
