Assalamualaikum, my name is Maariya and I’m a third-year medical student hoping to run for general secretary of Leeds ISOC 2024/25 inshallah.
Over the last year, being a part of ISOC has been the most rewarding and memorable experience alhumdulillah. As gen sec, the role is very different to others, and although it is more so an individual role, it allowed me the freedom to be able to work with everyone and be involved in pretty much everything. I’ve also met and become friends with like minded people I wouldn’t have otherwise had the pleasure of meeting.
Specifically heading charity week this year (although stressful at times) was an incredible experience that taught me so much not only within the constraints of my role but also expanding beyond that. I had the opportunity to liaise with people both within committee and externally, to carry out our events and have the success that we did with them alhumdulillah.
Inshallah with your support I would love to retain my role as gen sec for another year, to expand on everything I’ve learnt this year and use that experience to allow me to fulfil my role and more in the year to come.
