I am excited to apply for this role because I enjoy organising events and helping students develop their skills. I have experience working in teams and organising hackathons, which has improved my communication and planning abilities.

If selected, I will organise workshops, career talks, networking events, and panels that give members valuable learning opportunities. I will also reach out to industry professionals and academics, promote events to increase attendance, and help build strong connections that benefit the society in the future.

Great opportunities don't happen by chance, they happen because someone brings the right people together.

Throughout school, university, and my internships, I've always enjoyed doing exactly that. Whether it was helping organise a multicultural charity event at school, building communities during my internships, or connecting students with industry professionals, I've learnt that the best opportunities come through meaningful relationships. As your Academic and Industry Event Officer, I want to use my experience and network to make AISoc the first place students think of for career opportunities, technical talks, and networking events.

I currently intern at Goldman Sachs (Engineering) and previously completed a year-long Software Engineering placement at Nomura, where I worked closely with engineers, recruiters, and senior leaders across the firm. Alongside this, I've attended engineering insight programmes with organisations including American Express, NatWest Group, Wise, and BAE Systems, allowing me to build relationships across both technology and finance.

At Goldman Sachs, I'm actively involved in the Asset Management Women's Engineering Network and am currently helping organise intern socials through the firm's Intern, Apprentice & Analyst Network. This has given me valuable experience in planning engaging events, bringing people together, and understanding what makes professional communities thrive.

Beyond my internships, I'm an active member of Rewriting the Code (RTC) and Migrant Leaders, two organisations that have significantly expanded my professional network. Through these communities, I regularly attend events with leading companies including Google, Amazon, Salesforce, Bloomberg, Meta, Capital One, and NVIDIA, as well as opportunities such as London Tech Week.

I'm also the Technical Marketing Assistant at Femetronics, a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting women in engineering through research, education, and industry collaboration. Earlier this year, I project-managed an AI project with Femetronics while working alongside mentors and researchers, giving me the opportunity to build relationships across both academia and industry. Femetronics has an incredible network and I'd love to explore opportunities for AISoc to collaborate on talks, workshops, and technical events.

I've already started making this happen. During my placement year, I helped connect AISoc with Rewriting the Code to discuss collaborative event ideas for International Women's Week, and I'm currently working with the Goldman Sachs Engineering Academy recruitment team to promote engineering opportunities for our students. During my placement year, I was also invited to speak on an industry panel hosted by the University of Sheffield's BAME Engineers Society, where I shared my journey into software engineering and offered advice to students pursuing careers in technology. Experiences like these have strengthened my passion for connecting students with industry and creating events that have a genuine impact.

If elected, I will:

1. Bring engineers, researchers, recruiters, and alumni from leading technology and finance companies to campus for talks, networking sessions, and panel events.
2. Build long-term partnerships with organisations such as Rewriting the Code, Femetronics, and Migrant Leaders to create exclusive opportunities for AISoc members.
3. Organise practical workshops covering technical interviews, assessment centres, CV reviews, career preparation, and emerging AI topics.
4. Create events that are welcoming, engaging, and valuable for students at every stage of their degree.

To end it all, I'm a people person. My passion for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence has been shaped by the incredible people I've met throughout my journey, and I want every AISoc member to have the same opportunities to learn, connect, and grow.

I’m Sima, and I’ll be going into my second year studying Data Science.
I’m running for Academic and Industry Event Officer because I genuinely enjoy planning events and creating opportunities that help students grow both academically and professionally.
I have experience organising STEM and maths events at school, as well as community events such as breast cancer awareness and food charity events. Through these experiences, I’ve developed strong organisation, communication, and teamwork skills.
As a Data Science student, I’m particularly interested in artificial intelligence, and I’d love to bring more AI and data science related workshops, career talks, networking events, and panel discussions to our society. I want to create events where members can gain practical skills, meet academics and industry professionals, and learn about the latest developments in technology.
I’m a friendly and approachable person who enjoys connecting with people, and I’m confident in building relationships with guest speakers and professionals to create exciting opportunities for our members.
