As LTT's Head of Research, your leadership will be pivotal in steering the research department towards its goal of excellence in policy analysis and research. In this capacity, you will oversee the recruitment and development of a diverse team of policy heads, researchers, and editors, ensuring the think tank remains at the forefront of policy discourse. Your role encompasses a wide array of responsibilities, from strategic planning to hands-on involvement in research and editorial processes. By fostering a collaborative environment, you will guide the research team through various stages of project development, from inception to publication. Your role involves close coordination with the Editor-In-Chief and the Head of Data and Insights to ensure that research outputs are supported by robust data analysis and effectively disseminated through the LTT blog and other channels.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Talent Management: Oversee the recruitment and development of the research team, ensuring a high level of expertise and engagement across all policy areas.
  2. Strategic Leadership: Convene biweekly society meetings to monitor project progress and facilitate the exchange of ideas and feedback among researchers.
  3. Academic Collaboration: Cultivate relationships with an academic advisory council to enhance the quality of research through rigorous review and feedback processes, particularly during the critical December to January period.
  4. Project Coordination: Develop comprehensive project plans detailing timelines for draft submissions and publication schedules, ensuring timely and impactful dissemination of research findings.
  5. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with the Head of Data and Insights and the Editor-In-Chief to bolster policy research with data analytics and to ensure smooth operation of the LTT blog respectively.
  6. Design Oversight: Make key decisions regarding the design and presentation of research reports, enhancing their accessibility and impact.
  7. Research Support: Offer ongoing support and consultation to policy areas, identifying research gaps and opportunities for improvement, and stepping in to contribute directly to research efforts as needed.
  8. Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve team disputes, maintaining a harmonious and productive work environment.
  9. Event Organization: Play a key role in organizing academic events that align with LTT's research priorities, fostering a vibrant community of scholars and practitioners.
  10. Editorial Excellence: Assist in the editing process for both internal and external publications, upholding the think tank's standards for quality and coherence.
  11. Data Analytics Support: Provide data analysis assistance in collaboration with the data team, utilizing tools like Macrobond to enhance research outcomes.
  12. Engagement and Representation: Actively participate in society and committee meetings, representing the research department and contributing to the broader strategic objectives of the think tank.
  13. Review Process Management: Oversee the internal review process, enabling staff to provide constructive feedback on each other's papers, and manage the external review process by coordinating with another student think tank for an evaluation of our research outputs.
