Dear LUWILS community,

Are you already looking forward to the next annual Empower Conference? I am Phway, a first year BSc Banking and Finance student nominated for the Conference Director role. A little fun fact before we dive into the serious stuff! I am also a huge K-pop fan, especially Blackpink and Lesserafim!

My main aim for the 2025 Empower Conference is to create an organized schedule to stay on track with the planning. I promise to recruit a great lineup of external speakers for an insightful conference and networking opportunity. To achieve this, I cannot wait to work together with the committee and subcommittee members. Together, we will increase coverage in multiple industries. Coming from a finance background, I also plan to recruit female speakers, especially from more senior roles in major firms. Aren’t female finance professionals sharing the same aspirations as us the best examples and evidence for us to keep working towards our career goals?

Previously, I had co-founded a charitable business to raise funds for educational services for autism. Moreover, raised funds for and arranged an inclusive day spent with orphans during high school. My awareness of health and safety procedures came from my internship experience at a hospital. I guarantee that my previous experiences will make me a perfect candidate for this role and promote inclusivity and safety throughout the conference. Inclusion will be enhanced by equally listening to suggestions and feedback from members of the committee and society.

Hi,

I'm Mahvish Khan, a first-year on the 3-year LLB law programme. I'm an international student from Canada aspiring to have a career in sports/media law! I enjoy travelling and learning about new cultures and foods. And I also enjoy watching sports, mainly Formula One.

My passion for community engagement led me to take initiatives and leadership roles in high school; I was a link crew leader, head of the student council, head of the prom committee, and student events coordinator. I have organized and planned events for many freshmen each year during high school, taking initiatives for events like dances and theme days. I have also organized a few events outside of school to fundraise for organizations like women's health, food drives, and mental health research groups.

As someone who has benefited from different leadership roles and societies, being a part of one allows me to provide opportunities for women with different career aspirations to connect, network and empower women in their passions. By joining the society, I can contribute by breaking barriers and promoting and encouraging women to thrive in leadership positions throughout their careers. I want to play a role in helping more women pursue their dreams through their academic and career journeys. I am passionate about seeing other women build their skills, networks, and personal development to become resilient leaders. I want to collaborate with like-minded individuals with the same aspirations to promote more resourceful opportunities for women.

Hi everyone!

I am Suhana, a first-year law student from India. I have wanted to become a lawyer ever since I watched Suits (don't we all). I aspire to be a solicitor in the future, I love to cook elaborate meals and I like to dress to slay every day to classes. Most days you will find me in the library, trying to manage this degree.

I am the current disability inclusion officer as part of the inclusion sub-committee at LUUWILS. We are currently in the process of making a Discord server and planning some very creative channels to encourage engagement. I want to apply for the role of conference director because I believe I will be able to leverage my contacts at different firms to organise engaging panel events and activities. Through these open days, I have increased my professional network considerably and have improved my communication skills which will help me to effectively coordinate between teams and ensure a smooth event. In university. I have participated in mooting, debating, negotiation and also pro bono, all at once mostly, which has taught me invaluable skills in time management. So I believe I can multi-task and organise an event of such versatility with success.

Hello everyone, I'm Divya, a first-year international Business student, and I'm eager to take on the role of Conference Director. I possess qualities such as being organised, goal-oriented, friendly, and have strong communication skills. Most significantly, I am deeply passionate about making a meaningful impact for women in leadership and empower and assist all women aspiring to become future leaders, equipping them with the necessary experiences and skills to combat gender bias in the corporate world.

During my tenure as a business development intern with a startup in India, I was tasked with multifaceted responsibilities that demanded adept leadership, strategic acumen, and unwavering attention to detail. I spearheaded initiatives aimed at overcoming obstacles to business growth, while simultaneously managing operational tasks such as employee onboarding and contractual review. This experience not only honed my practical skills but also cultivated my interpersonal and managerial proficiencies—qualities that I believe are integral to the successful fulfillment of the Conference Director's duties.

If selected,

I plan to introduce more interactive workshops and networking events led by industry experts to foster overall professional development and growth. Workshops focused on providing students with insights into the skills and experiences necessary for pursuing specific career paths.

Host networking gatherings aimed at embracing inclusivity and diversity, like rapid networking sessions or group gatherings. Offer icebreakers and conversation prompts to ensure every participant feels valued and encouraged to engage with others.

Additionally, I aim to establish a mentorship program connecting experienced professionals with emerging leaders to provide guidance and support. Furthermore, I intend to enhance the 2025 Empower Conference by offering CV review and advice on your application from professionals with diverse backgrounds, ensuring a more engaging and enriching experience for all participants.

Establish an exclusive panel in the Empower Conference ‘25 tailored for students seeking to assess their suitability for positions offered by leading companies and whether it is worthwhile for them to pursue opportunities with those organisations.
