Hello everyone!!

My name is Andrea Morter, and I am a Penultimate year International Development with Quantitative Methods Student. Since joining WILS in my first year, it has been such a positive experience for me in university. I have met so many amazing and inspiring people while having taken up various committee roles in WILS. I have helped to organize the largest Empower Conference ever (+370 students), being Inclusion sub-committee Officer to represent students of all backgrounds, and Events Director in creating career and social events. Being in such roles has honestly pushed me out of my shell in becoming more confident and ambitious in pursuing a career in STEM, after pursuing my MSc in Data Science and Analytics.

Wanting to pursue a career experience within the technology sector and data, I have pushed myself to gain invaluable experience in the industry. I have been able to improve my knowledge and experience in this sector by working as Data Analyst at the Leeds Policy Institute and for the British International Studies Association. I have also taken up summer 2023 Q-step summer school in learning more software languages such as STATA and R. Wanting to put into practice the skills I have learned from these amazing opportunities, I have been able to work hybrid for over 2 years as a Data and Research Analyst at Sterling Development International and CIO International. Being able to have had such highly insightful experiences, I want to commit in hosting social and career events catering to the needs of STEM students, and to facilitate those aiming to pursue a career in STEM from non-STEM disciplines.

Being able to be elected as STEM Director, I aim to use my previous experience in STEM alongside my involvement with WILS, to empower women to EXCEL AND SUCCEED in their careers. My objective is to help women grow in their capabilities and thrive. I plan to offer office visits and insight days of STEM companies in Leeds, on top of networking events solely dedicated to female STEM students to connect with the industry at a personal level. I aim to work closely with the committee to advertise STEM events and job opportunities within the UK and Leeds, on top of initiating quantitative skills workshops for all members, such as ‘Classes in mastering Excel’.

Hey WILS members!!

I'm Shasha Nabila, a penultimate-year Computer Science student and an active member of WILS, where I've grown immensely both personally and professionally. My experience in various leadership roles has helped me develop key skills essential for effective leadership and organization. Now, I aspire to serve as your STEM Director.

Being part of WILS has been an amazing journey where I've had the chance to meet so many amazing women. I'm eager to learn as much as I can to contribute to our collective growth. I aim to make WILS a place where everyone can do their best and fully use their skills in STEM.

As STEM Director, I plan to:

1. Workshop Series: Organize workshops focusing on key STEM skills like coding, data analysis, and scientific research methods, tailored to our members' interests. These sessions may be led by student or professional experts, ensuring a rich learning experience.

2. Success Stories: Showcase the achievements of UOL alumni who have excelled in their STEM fields. By sharing these success stories, we aim to inspire our members and demonstrate the diverse and successful career paths achievable with a STEM degree.

3. Event Research and Curation: Actively research and compile a list of relevant STEM-related events, including conferences, workshops, and seminars throughout the UK, utilizing online event platforms, university bulletins, and industry newsletters to ensure our members have access to the best resources and networking opportunities.
