Hi everyone! I’m Maharani, an (hopefully) incoming third year architectural engineering student. Before studying in Leeds, I was mostly raised in Saudi Arabia and attended an international school there, but I’m really from Indonesia. Growing up in such a diverse community, I look forward to meeting as many people as possible.

I’ve contributed to various clubs and societies (peep my poster!) that helped me foster a deep sense of drive and accountability in teamwork that enables me to hold myself to a high standard and produce quality work. I find that I’m often the planner and will triple check and oversee everything. I’m quite empathetic so I make sure everyone’s okay with the work, and try to bond with everyone. From a more platonic standpoint, I’m the designated mom friend who always comes prepared and offers to do everything. I’d hope to apply my experience and skills to the Professional Outreach Officer role in parallel with my position as the incoming CivSoc Industry Secretary. I plan to cater industrial events to the members and span across as many STEM schools as possible, with an emphasis on engineering (I’ll somehow get to the SCAPE students). I aim to continue the International Women’s Day social and hope to introduce some events including a WIE-wide career dinner, other career-oriented workshops (LinkedIn, employability skills, etc.), and guest talks. My name is Sarya Baabdullah, an aerospace engineering student deeply committed to advancing women’s representation and leadership within the engineering profession. I am eager to actively contribute to the Society of Women in Engineering, particularly by fostering professional outreach and building strong networks between students and industry. Through this engagement, I aim to support and empower fellow women in engineering while promoting innovation and collaboration within our community.

I’m running for Professional Outreach Officer because I genuinely care about creating meaningful connections between students and the world beyond uni. I’m someone who gets excited about new ideas, bringing people together, and making things happen—whether that’s inviting speakers who actually inspire us or building real opportunities for everyone. If I’m elected, I’ll put my full energy into this role and do everything I can to make next year exciting, engaging, and full of value for all of us.
