Art in various forms has always been a central part of my life. Most recently, I’ve exhibited with APS gallery in Leeds and started an ongoing daily art challenge online which several people have joined - we’re currently drawing a fish for every day in April. I’m going into my second year of engineering, but I draw and paint for fun in pretty much all my free time (and most of my less free time).

I’d love to get more involved in the workings of artsoc because I believe in the importance of this space where people can come together and do something creative. The weekly workshop is such a great opportunity to try out new ways of making art, but also meet likeminded people and unwind from the stress of uni life.

One of my favourite aspects of art is exploring different ways of making art. I have several ideas for future workshops, including possible collaborative projects such as doodling pages for an artsoc colouring book or swap painting. My favourite medium is impasto acrylics, but I also love watercolour, sculpture, oils and have recently been doing a lot of digital art. I’m excited about the chance to work as part of a team for this role because of the variety of ideas and workshops we’ll be able to bring you and learning from each of the other event secs.

As part of the committee, I’d also love to start running day trips for plein aire landscape painting/sketching around Yorkshire. We are surrounded by stunning countryside, and it would be amazing to make the most of that as a society.

I’d love the opportunity to be part of this team, helping make the weekly workshops welcoming, fun and varied, and hopefully start something new that I’m really excited about.

I am an artistic and fun-loving mechanical engineering student (i know an unexpected combo;). Being able to organise these amazing workshops is an exciting opportunity and I can’t wait to meet more amazing people who share similar interests to mine.

Art has been an integral part of my life since my early childhood, from creating small cartoon caricatures to my academic pursuit of the subject throughout grades 9 to 12. This enduring influence of art led me to choosing to become a member of the art society. Every event I've attended within this society has had a warm and inviting atmosphere. The comfortable and open character of the society is precisely why I want to get more involved with it, hence I'm applying to be the events secretary for the year 2024-25. As the events secretary, I am committed to creating an environment where artists of all kinds can freely explore various art forms.

I have many ideas for workshops, first among them being the incorporation of sustainable materials. For instance, utilizing natural dyes derived from turmeric, beetroot, coffee, and red cabbage in painting workshops. Additionally, I want to introduce origami workshops, known for their therapeutic qualities and accessibility of materials. Furthermore, I wish to conduct fabric painting and cloth customization sessions to offer participants the opportunity to personalize their garments with materials such as beads and fabric paints. I also aim to plan more outdoor activities, such as wildflower pressing and nature studies in parks, to take advantage of the good weather that comes with spring and summer in Leeds. Organizing day trips to museums and exhibitions within Leeds and running collaborative workshops with other societies are some other things I wish to focus on. As an avid Pinterest user, I will also make it a priority to curate and maintain inspirational boards for our workshops.

My experience in organizing sustainable art fairs during my academic years has taught me how to plan events under a tight budget while also honing my interpersonal and organizational skills. I believe that my resourcefulness, time management skills, and strong work ethic make me a suitable candidate for the position of events secretary.

I am eager to contribute to the team and help plan events that provide a welcoming space for individuals to nurture their creativity without any judgment or inhibition!

I started making art during the pandemic lockdown, and since then I have come so far. I've experimented with so many different forms of art, from oil paintings, to print-making, to mixed-media videos. As an event secretary, I aim to inspire others with my innovative, fun workshop projects. I am confident that my strong resourcefulness and time-management skills will be valuable assets to this role. This year I have sincerely enjoyed going to the art workshops, and I would love the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing success of these projects.
