Heya! I’m Emmy, a liberal arts student majoring in cultural studies going into my third year. I’ve been a life drawing secretary for art soc since January and I have been absolutely loving getting to spend my time helping to organise new life drawing sessions and giving more people the opportunity to be a part of such a fun aspect of art soc. I’m nominating myself for the role of secretary because I would love to be more involved with the process of running life drawing sessions, as they are something I really enjoy, and I am grateful to have been able to already partake as much as I do - so I would love to do more.

I am familiar with the “on the floor” work involved with the sessions, and I would enjoy being able to also participate more behind the scenes by booking and communicating with the models. I’m a friendly person and I always strive to make people feel as comfortable and safe as possible, which are values that I would take forward when liaising with models, and when helping with the running of sessions. I am also very passionate about diversity and inclusion, and if I were to be elected as secretary, I would work hard to continue the work art soc has been doing to increase the range of models from different backgrounds who we have the honour to draw in these sessions!

I would apply this to events and workshops too, and I would hope to be able to contribute more ideas to these. I would love to do more themed workshops that explore art in different cultures and groups who have a rich history, and may not always have the opportunity to be represented. It would be wonderful to be secretary and be able to play a more active role in helping to broaden the scope of workshops as well as life drawing sessions.

I am very organised and adaptable, which are skills that I think would be helpful when overseeing and responding to emails efficiently and promptly. I volunteered at an Oxfam bookshop for a few years, which gave me the opportunity to meet and interact with a diverse range of people and improve my people skills, alongside my management skills. This experience was so incredibly beneficial to me, and if I were elected, I would apply everything that I learned during that time to my work as secretary.

I am so grateful for the amazing people I have met in/through art soc, and for the opportunities I have gained as a member of the society and as a member of its committee. I would love nothing more than to become secretary and be able to contribute more to the society and its lovely members, and to help to broaden the scope of events and life drawing sessions to include as many people as possible. My main goal as secretary would be to share the joy that I have experienced working with art soc with even more enthusiasts than I already have.
