Heyyy everyone my name is Kate, I am currently in my first year studying Linguistics and Philosophy and I would love to be your Welfare Sec.
Honestly the main reason I want to be welfare sec is to replicate the same positivity and kindness Rachel and committee portray in classes, socials and when you bump into them on campus.
I really want to make others in Freestyle feel as welcomed and as relaxed as they made me feel. As an anxious fresher absolutely bricking it joining uni and then a society, it was such a major relief that the freestyle girlies were and are so lovely.
I want to provide that same reassurance and positivity to next years freshers and to others Freestylers💙
I believe physical and mental wellbeing is so so important so I hope to make people feel as though they are not alone and always have someone to chat to.
I am a big lover of journaling, colouring and a good old mental health walk, so I’ve got lots of tips and tricks to improve your wellbeing.
As it’s known I can’t hack a hangover/mischief so most socials I’m just tipsy, so I will be SO READY to jump to action if any welfare related issues arise in da clurbbb. I never black out/throw up so I’d like to think that I am always staying extra vig!! (I’ve got your back💪🏼)
Finally, if I end up being Welfare Sec I would like to offer more sober socials such as: crazy golf, bowling, trampoline parks etc. I think it would be such a laugh. I’m always down for a mental health walk as well ;)

Hey gorgeous freestylers,

I’m Ella and I’m running for your 2025/26 Welfare Sec. I am currently a first-year student studying English Literature and have been dancing since I was 3 years old. I grew up in the ballet world, a quite toxic environment, and moved to a more inclusive dance school to train in modern and contemp when I was fifteen. This year, I’ve competed at intercomp and in the contemporary, lyrical, wildcard and jazz team, after having never competed before uni – such an incredible experience!!

Joining Freestyle is the best reminder every day that dance can be amazing fun, expressing yourself in a safe and inclusive environment. Being supported in a way that means you can improve without judgement, and form amazing friendships, has truly been the best part of my first year. It would be an honour for me to welcome new freshers to the society and give them the incredible welcome that I have had.

I really want to be a friendly face that anyone can talk to, whether that be a new fresher, or someone already in the society. Uni poses many new stresses that can definitely seem overwhelming; it would be silly to say that I will be able to fix anything, but I’m a firm believer that a problem shared is a problem halved :)

At Sixth Form, I was Head Girl for a year and campaigned for many changes within my school. Having said that, my most successful was that I was able to put dance as an academic subject onto both the GCSE and A Level curriculum. I spoke extensively with my Head Teacher about the importance of dance on mental wellbeing and I think my passion for this topic would make me a good welfare sec.

Within this role, I would also love to have some fundraisers to donate to charities, and also to treating our society to some nice amenities ;) I think by doing this, we can help to build on our already super strong community for some sober fun! Alongside this, I would love to work with the social secs to have some more sober socials to get to know everyone outside of our crazy Wednesdays (my fav).

I aim to expand this role this year, working with the comp rep to host (what Lottie has named) ‘Catch-Up Clinics’, not just to support with choreo, but also with pre-comp nerves and 1-2-1 help on tricky bits of technique and elements of the dance. I hope that with these offered throughout the weeks leading up to comp season, everyone will have the opportunity to have some studio space to help build confidence and have a chat about any worries or concerns.

I adore this society with all of my heart and I would love to make anyone’s freestyle experience just as incredible as mine.

Hey!!!

If you don't already know, my name is Kim (Kimberly) and I am currently a first-year philosophy student.
My 1st year has been amazing due to the beautiful community I have found in freestyle and that wouldn't have been possible if it weren't for all you great people.
having struggled to fit in at my previous schools it means a lot that you all have welcomed me with open arms. Because of the importance this role plays in making freestyle a place which is inclusive and welcoming to all I have been inspired to run for Welfare Sec.
As welfare sec, I promise to be warm, welcoming, and to provide incoming and returning freestylers with someone they can talk to and approach when they need.
My plans for welfare sec are to keep living up to the friendly face Rachel has been for us all in the past year, as well as introducing more conversations surrounding mental health and well-being.
Having struggled with my own fair share of mental health issues I know how important it is to be provided a network of people who you can talk to about your issues. This leads me to my next goal as Welfare Sec which is to introduce more fundraising opportunities for mental health charities.
Welfare Sec is an important role and having seen how amazing Rachel, this year, has been all I can do is hope to live up to the standard she has set. I have witnessed how the role of welfare is more than just being approachable but also caring for those within freestyle and I can proudly say that I appreciate and care for you all and would like to thank you for the best first year a girl could ask for.

That all being said I would like to say it would be an honour to be your Welfare Sec next year.
